11/15/12 - SCOUTING THE DEFENSE: Virginia's been very sound against the run in recent games against North Carolina, allowing an average of 104.0 rushing yards per game in the last six meetings and winning four of those. There's a tough challenge this week against RB Giovani Bernard of North Carolina, who ran for 102 yards in last year's game and is the leading rusher in the ACC this season. PLAYERS TO WATCH: LB Steve Greer is finishing his college career strong. His 13-tackle performance in last week's 41-40 win over Miami marked his fifth double-digit tackle game of his senior season. Coach Mike London attributed Greer's success to being a savvy, experienced player, and noted more opportunities to make plays exist for a defender in the middle of the field as spread offenses become more popular. - The Sports Xchange
09/10/12 - LOOKING GOOD: Virginia's defense embodied the bend-but-don't-break mentality. The Cavaliers allowed 303 total yards against Penn State but played lights-out defense when it mattered most. Virginia turned it over four times, and all four of the Nittany Lions' ensuing possessions began inside the Cavaliers' own 30-yard line. Cumulatively on those four drives, Virginia allowed minus-14 yards of offense. LB Steve Greer had a huge game, racking up a career-high 15 tackles and equaling his personal best of two sacks. Greer picked a fine time to do so. His stepmother is a Penn State graduate. "She's waiting outside," Greer said during his postgame chat with reporters. "I get to rub it in a little bit. I'm looking forward to it." - The Sports Xchange
