 Draft Scout Steve Greer News
12/12/12 - 2012 COACHES ALL-ACC FOOTBALL SECOND TEAM: LB-Steve Greer, Virginia, 6-2, 225, Sr.-R, Solon, Ohio (12), has been selected Second Team All-Atlantic Coast Conference (Coaches selection) for the 2012 college football season. This year, for the first time under the auspices of the ACC, the league's 12 head football coaches voted for an All-ACC football team.

Greer (Solon, Ohio) is No. 2 in the ACC this year with 122 tackles and his 376 career tackles ranks No. 6 all-time at UVa. The senior ranks No. 1 among active ACC players in career tackles and Notre Dame’s Manti Te’o is the only active BCS player with more career tackles. Greer was twice named ACC Linebacker of the Week in 2012, following a 15-tackle performance against Penn State and a career-high 19-tackle game at Virginia Tech.

Greer was named a second-team honoree in 2011 and an honorable-mention honoree in 2009. Greer is a finalist for the Dudley Award and for the second year in a row named the Touchdown Club of Richmond’s Linebacker of the Year. - Virginia football

12/02/12 - 2012 ALL-ACC FIRST TEAM (MEDIA): LB-Steve Greer, Virginia (58)...has been named First Team All-Atlantic Coast Conference for the 2012 college football season by the ACC Media Association. Greer (Solon, Ohio) is No. 2 in the ACC this year with 122 tackles and his 376 career tackles ranks No. 6 all-time at UVa. Greer ranks No. - Virginia football
11/26/12 - WEEK 13 ACC LINEBACKER OF THE WEEK: Steve Greer, Virginia, Senior, ILB, 6-2, 230, Solon, Ohio Greer played the best game of his career in his final college contest. Greer led the Cavalier defense with 19 tackles in a 17-14 loss at Virginia Tech. Greer led both teams in the defensive-oriented game with a career-high 19 tackles, along with nine solo stops. Greer finished the season with 122 total tackles. Virginia held the Hokies to 303 yards of total offense, almost 100 yards below their season average (399.9). - ACC football
11/15/12 - SCOUTING THE DEFENSE: Virginia's been very sound against the run in recent games against North Carolina, allowing an average of 104.0 rushing yards per game in the last six meetings and winning four of those. There's a tough challenge this week against RB Giovani Bernard of North Carolina, who ran for 102 yards in last year's game and is the leading rusher in the ACC this season. PLAYERS TO WATCH: LB Steve Greer is finishing his college career strong. His 13-tackle performance in last week's 41-40 win over Miami marked his fifth double-digit tackle game of his senior season. Coach Mike London attributed Greer's success to being a savvy, experienced player, and noted more opportunities to make plays exist for a defender in the middle of the field as spread offenses become more popular. - The Sports Xchange
09/10/12 - LOOKING GOOD: Virginia's defense embodied the bend-but-don't-break mentality. The Cavaliers allowed 303 total yards against Penn State but played lights-out defense when it mattered most. Virginia turned it over four times, and all four of the Nittany Lions' ensuing possessions began inside the Cavaliers' own 30-yard line. Cumulatively on those four drives, Virginia allowed minus-14 yards of offense. LB Steve Greer had a huge game, racking up a career-high 15 tackles and equaling his personal best of two sacks. Greer picked a fine time to do so. His stepmother is a Penn State graduate. "She's waiting outside," Greer said during his postgame chat with reporters. "I get to rub it in a little bit. I'm looking forward to it." - The Sports Xchange
