Draft Scout *Lawrence Guy News
05/31/17 - DL Lawrence Guy is far from the biggest name in New England's long list of offseason talent additions. But the former Baltimore Ravens defender's versatility might just make him the perfect role player. After all, "the more you can do" is one of the tenets of coach Bill Belichick's tenure in Foxborough. "I feel comfortable anywhere you put me," Guy recalls telling his new coaches upon his arrival in New England as a free agent this spring.
03/11/17 - DL Lawrence Guy signed a four-year contract with the Patriots on Saturday, according to published reports. Guy, who is five days shy of his 27th birthday, signed a deal worth a reported $20 million, according to Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network.
The 6-foot-4, 305-pound Guy spent the majority of the last three seasons with the Baltimore Ravens, appearing in all 16 games in each of the past two years and starting a career-high 10 in 2016. Guy had 28 tackles and one sack last season after registering career highs in both categories in 2015 with 46 and 4.5, respectively. A seventh-round draft pick out of Arizona State in 2011, Guy spent parts of two seasons with the Indianapolis Colts and San Diego Chargers before landing with the Ravens.
09/21/16 - DE Lawrence Guy was named AFC Special Teams Player of the Week. Against the Cleveland Browns, Guy blocked extra point that was returned for two points. The Ravens trailed 20-0 at that time, but scored 25 consecutive points to escape with the victory -- the second-largest comeback in team history. Guy also started the past two weeks at defensive end.
10/14/15 - DE Lawrence Guy has played effectively stepping in for the injured Chris Canty (calf). There is a chance Canty can return to the lineup this week, but that doesn't mean Guy won't continue to get reps, according to coach John Harbaugh. "D-line, you rotate guys," Harbaugh said. "So, they'll both play a ton when Chris (Canty) comes back, but Lawrence has played really well.
"He's physical, rushes the passer, had a couple sacks, pressured the quarterback, had the one (roughing the passer) penalty, unfortunately. We're going to try to figure out how to coach that differently somehow. When the league can explain to us what they want, we'll get it coached differently. We'll do a better job of that somehow. We'll find a way. And yes, he played well."
09/01/15 - DE Lawrence Guy was back at practice Tuesday after suffering a knee injury against the Redskins. This was good news for the Ravens, who had already expected to be thin at that position for the final preseason game in Atlanta. Starting DE Chris Canty and NT Brandon Williams are being held out of the final game.
