Draft Scout Alex Hurst News
10/13/12 - LSU right tackle Alex Hurst and right guard Josh Williford have been ruled out of Saturday night's game against South Carolina, meaning the Tigers will have only two season-opening starters on the offensive line in uniform. LSU spokesman Michael Bonnette says Hurst has been excused for undisclosed personal reasons, while Williford was unable to return after leaving last week's loss at Florida with a concussion. The Tigers' top offensive lineman, left tackle Chris Faulk, went out for the season with a knee injury in early September. Josh Dworaczyk is starting at left tackle, while freshman Vadal Alexander will start at right tackle and redshirt freshman Trai Turner will start at right guard. They'll face a Gamecocks pass rush led by Jadeveon Clowney and Devin Taylor, who've combined for 10Ĺ sacks. - AP Sports
10/10/12 - 10/10/12 NFL DRAFT SCOUT FALLER: 2. Alex Hurst, OT, LSU: A two-year starter at right tackle entering his senior season, Hurst has been often overlooked playing opposite left tackle Chris Faulk, the more talented prospect. But then Faulk went down with a season-ending injury earlier this season and while senior Josh Dworaczyk filled in on the left side for the last few games, Hurst earned his first career start at left tackle against Florida. Unfortunately it was a rough debut as he struggled against a talented Florida front. Hurst failed to explode off the snap or recognize extra blitzers pre-snap, showing the lack of foot quickness to recover in his kickslide or handle speed rushers. He too often found himself off-balance and out of control in space, ending up on the ground. Hurst proved on Saturday that he might be nothing more than a short-area blocker, due for a position change inside to guard if he hopes to stick at the next level. - Dane Brugler, NFLDraftScout.com
