Draft Scout Michael Mauti News
04/28/13 - A closer look at the Vikings' picks: 7/213 - Michael Mauti, ILB, 6-2, 243, Penn State...A determined athlete that is coming back from his third torn ACL. He's torn his left one twice (2009 and 2012) and his right one once (2011). Mauti hopes to be ready for the start of training camp, but is more of a longer-term project than a candidate to fill the team's opening for a starting middle linebacker. - The Sports Xchange
03/24/13 - 2013 Penn State Pro Day: The Penn State Nittany Lions ran their pro day out of Holuba Hall in front of 22 teams. The interesting quirk about Holuba Hall is the athletes were able to run the 40-yard dash on a slight decline, allowing for faster times. A total of 14 athletes worked out at the Penn State pro day. Michael Mauti, LB (6-1 3/4, 240) - Mauti’s pro day was limited by a prior injury. The linebacker, dealing with an injured left anterior cruciate ligament, was only weighed and measured. - Gil Brandt, NFL.com
03/12/13 - 2013 Penn State Pro Day: Recovering from a torn ACL in his left knee, Michael Mauti was unable to work out for scouts Monday. According to linebackers coach Ron Vanderlinden, however, Mauti is progressing well. “He's way ahead of schedule and from what I hear everything is going good,” Vanderlinden said. “Hopefully he'll get into the NFL and all his injuries will be behind him.
Scouts and coaches from 23 NFL teams were represented at the workout. Among the teams represented were the Atlanta Falcons, Denver Broncos, Green Bay Packers, Houston Texans, New England Patriots, San Francisco 49ers, Seattle Seahawks and Washington Redskins. - Rob Rang, NFLDraftScout.com
02/20/13 - 2013 NFL Combine, Next question: Neither Gerald Hodges or Michael Mauti have off-field concerns or character issues that should worry teams. In fact, it's quite the opposite that will make their interviews interesting during the predraft process. Both were caught in an unenviable situation this past year with all the controversy surrounding Penn State football, but they handled it very well.
While both had productive senior seasons, their contributions off the field were equally noteworthy as they helped guide a young team through a turbulent situation. Neither are considered first-round picks, especially after Mauti's latest knee injury, but both should impress during the interview process with their leadership and experience. - Dane Brugler, NFLDraftScout.com
12/04/12 - 2012 ALL-BIG TEN FIRST TEAM (MEDIA): LB Michael Mauti, Penn State, has been selected First Team All-Big Ten (Media selection) for the 2012 college football season. A co-captain, Mauti earns the first Butkus-Fitzgerald Linebacker of the Year honor for "LinebackerU." in its second year of being presented. The award is named after Dick Butkus (Illinois) and Pat Fitzgerald (Northwestern). Mauti and Fitzgerald were coached by Ron Vanderlinden, who has been Penn State's linebackers coach since 2001.
A semifinalist for the Butkus Award, Mauti ranks in the top 10 in the Big Ten in tackles (7th, 96), interceptions (4th, 3) and forced fumbles (3rd, 3). He also leads the Big Ten in interception return yards (125). Mauti has 4.0 TFL, 2.5 sacks (minus-25), three interceptions, three forced fumbles, one fumble recovery and two pass break-ups.
