Draft Scout Stephen Paea News
03/12/15 - DT Stephen Paea left the Bears for the Redskins Wednesday (March 11), agreeing to terms on a four-year deal worth $21 million, including $15 million guaranteed.
Paea, 26, recorded six sacks in 2014 and has started 40 games with the Bears since being a second-round pick in 2011.
03/05/15 - DT Stephen Paea, unrestricted FA update, had the misfortune of making big strides with a career-high six sacks during his final contract year when the Bears decided to switch systems. Playing the nose in the 4-3 at 306 pounds doesn't qualify him to be a nose in the 3-4, but if he added weight, with his great strength he could convert to a block-eating plug for the line. Still, with other players who've done this before available now, it's more likely they'd let Paea leave for another 4-3 team.
12/29/14 - DT Stephen Paea, a free agent, finished with a personal best of six sacks in a contract year and said he would like to return next year. However, he realizes it depends on the new GM and coach. "Myself, I don't know if I'm going to come back here next year," he said. "Wherever the journey takes me, I did my best to do my job, just trying to make a living."
11/23/14 - DT Stephen Paea had two sacks Sunday and now has six, matching his career total for three previous seasons in the NFL. The fourth-year player also forced a fumble.
12/12/13 - DT Stephen Paea's toe injury was not a problem last week, but he still only got on the field for 18 plays at the nose, 33 percent of the snaps. With Jeremiah Ratliff getting in 80 percent of the plays, the Bears were able to move Corey Wootton outside to end or play him at three-technique tackle. All of that combined to limit Paea's playing time.
