Draft Scout News
10/17/16 - DT Dontari Poe doesn't look like an offensive threat, but that's what he's turning into for coach Andy Reid.
Last season against San Diego, Poe took a handoff from Alex Smith and leaped into the end zone for a 1-yard touchdown in a 33-3 Chiefs win on Nov. 23.
Poe scored his second career NFL touchdown Sunday in a 26-10 victory against the Oakland Raiders at the Oakland Coliseum. This time, he caught a backward pass from Smith and followed his blockers into the end zone for a 1-yard touchdown run in the third quarter of a 26-10 victory.
Poe said he has never dropped a pass from Smith in practice, and he was confident he would hold on in Sunday's game.
"No drops," Poe said of practice. "Can't drop it. If you drop it (Reid's) not going to use it, so you got to let him know you're automatic."
Reid said, "I'm taking credit for that one for all the chubby guys out there. He's got phenomenal hands. I know that's hard to say about a nose guard, but he's got phenomenal hands. It's just a matter looking it in, be patient and then cut the beast loose."
01/20/16 - NT Dontari Poe was brought along slowly after July back surgery and with fewer early snaps he was more productive in the second half of the season.
11/23/15 - NT Dontari Poe scored the first touchdown of his NFL career in the first half of Sunday's game against San Diego. But his score did not come on defense, rather on offense. Poe went in on the Chiefs jumbo package for goal-line situations, something he's done for the past three seasons. In all previous offensive snaps, he was a blocker. This time he got the handoff on a fourth-and-goal play at the Chargers 1-yard line and did not run through the scrum at the line of scrimmage, but he went up and over.
10/22/15 - DT Dontari Poe (ankle) was a limited participant in practice on Thursday as he tries to return to the field after suffering a high ankle sprain in the October 11 game against Chicago.
10/21/15 - DT Dontari Poe (ankle) returned to the practice field on Wednesday for the first time since suffering a high ankle sprain in the Chiefs game on Oct. 11 against Chicago. Poe did not play in last Sunday's game against Minnesota. Head coach Andy Reid said his status for Sunday's game against Pittsburgh will be depend on how he handles the work.
