11/07/12 - PK John Potter, a rookie from Western Michigan who earned a roster spot out of training camp as a kickoff specialist, was waived. Potter was inactive the last two games as more of his kicks failed to reach the end zone. The team deemed it could no longer afford to carry a specialist for that job.

10/25/12 - PK John Potter, who had been handling kickoff duties, was inactive against Tennessee last game. The rookie has 13 touchbacks this season but coach Chan Gailey revealed that his plans are to use him on a game-to-game basis going forward. If Potter is inactive for any length of time, he could be a candidate to be released if the team needs a roster move.
