Draft Scout Terrelle Pryor News
09/11/15 - The Cleveland Browns' experiment with transitioning Terrelle Pryor to wide receiver ended when the team released the former quarterback on Thursday, and coach Mike Pettine said keeping Pryor on the regular-season roster was simply a "luxury" the team decided it couldn't afford.
Pryor made the initial 53-man roster out of training camp despite not catching a pass during the preseason, and Pettine admitted Friday that Pryor was the 53rd player who created significant internal debate.
"Terrelle certainly has the ability to make the transition to receiver," Pettine said. "We were hopeful that we were going to be able to have that time to do it, but that, to me, is viewed as a luxury."
Pettine said it was "very fair" to say that the Browns decided Turbin could be a more productive player than Pryor this season.
"Will Terrelle Pryor be successful in the NFL at wide out? There's a pretty good chance of that, but just given the timing for us, it just wasn't right."
09/10/15 - WR Terrelle Pryor was placed on waivers by the Browns Thursday (Sept. 10).
Pryor, who had been making the transition from quarterback to receiver, had made the initial cut to 53 players with the Browns.
"This will be a big mistake by them," Pryor told Cleveland.com after learning of his release.
This is the fifth time in the past 17 months that Pryor has been released by an NFL team.
He was traded from his original team, the Oakland Raiders, to the Seahawks in April 2014, was released by the Seahawks during the preseason and was with the Kansas City Chiefs for four months earlier this year.
The Chiefs released him May 5, and the Cincinnati Bengals signed him May 10 after he tried out for them during their rookie minicamp.
The Browns claimed him off waivers from the Bengals in June.
Pryor played in 15 games (10 starts) for the Raiders over the 2011-13 seasons, including 11 games and nine starts in 2013. He has passed for 1,953 yards, nine touchdowns and 12 interceptions while rushing for 627 yards and three touchdowns.
08/31/15 - WR Terrelle Pryor's attempt to switch from quarterback has stalled because of a hamstring injury. He did not play in any of the first three preseason games, but Pettine hopes to see Pryor against the Bears. "I don't want to say it's make or break," Pettine said. "I'm not going to deal with an absolute, saying he has to play, but we want to see him out there."
08/27/15 - WR Terrelle Pryor hopes to play against Tampa Bay, but whether he does could be a game-time decision. Pryor missed the first two preseason games with a hamstring injury and did not return to practice until Wednesday. He caught five passes in practice Thursday.
08/14/15 - WR Terrelle Pryor is hopeful of playing against the Buffalo Bills in the second preseason game next Thursday. He has been out 10 days with a hamstring pull and is missing valuable practice time in his bid to convert from wide receiver.
