Draft Scout *Ryan Williams News
01/14/15 - RB Ryan Williams was signed by the Cowboys Tuesday (Jan. 13) to a reserve/futuire contract for the 2015 season. He ended the 2014 season on the Cowboys' practice squad.
09/01/14 - RB Ryan Williams was among the final cuts after a strong preseason that had many thinking the Cowboys would keep four running backs. Williams, however, cleared waivers and was signed to the practice squad. Other practice-squad additions so far include defensive end Kenneth Boatright, center Ronald Patrick, linebacker Keith Smith, cornerback Micah Pellerin and linebacker Will Smith.
08/26/14 - RB Ryan Williams has a lot at stake in the preseason finale. He hopes to have another good showing to force the Cowboys to keep four running backs on the roster. But after gaining a team-high 112 yards on 25 carries and catching another nine passes for 66 yards in the first three preseason games, Williams has already proved something to himself and other teams in the league: he is healthy again and he belongs in the NFL. A former second-round pick of the Cardinals in 2011, Williams flamed out because of a new injury. He sat out last season. Now healthy, he is running again like he did at Virginia Tech. He is also showing in Dallas that he can play special teams for the first time in his career.
08/24/14 - RB Ryan Williams had another eye-opening performance with 12 carries for 47 yards. If the Cowboys don't keep four running backs, Williams has shown enough to make another team's roster.
08/17/14 - RB Ryan Williams had five carries for 36 yards, including a tackle-breaking and bull-dozing 27-yard run that set up a nice 3-yard touchdown run. It was a performance that has him in the thick of the battle at running back for the third spot with Joseph Randle. It could also make the Cowboys consider keeping four running backs with DeMarco Murray, Lance Dunbar, Randle and Williams. Williams, a former second-round pick of the Cardinals in 2011 who sat out last season because of injury issues, got the Cowboys attention.
"Well, those two cuts he made on the goal line to score were pretty impressive," owner Jerry Jones said of Williams. "The first cut and even the subtle Emmitt Smith cut going over that goal line. Yeah, he's a good running back. Of course, Joseph Randle has had a great camp. It's really pushed Randle to have Williams behind him, but I'm glad to see Williams have that good night."
