03/14/12 - Mother Nature did her best to dampen the annual Sacramento State football pro day on Tuesday but the 18 players in attendance battled through the elements to take part in several tests and drills. In front of 17 scouts and three defensive line coaches from NFL teams, players from Sacramento State, UC Davis, Humboldt State, Central Washington, Hawaii, West Liberty and Regina were measured, stretched, times and examined. Sacramento State had seven players taking part in the event comprised of defensive linemen Zack Nash and David Coleman, receivers Chase Deadder, Brandyn Reed and John Hendershott, quarterback Jeff Fleming and safety Joe Larche. The athletes began their day by having their arm, hand and wing span measured before having their height and weight recorded. From there, they moved into the weight room to see how many times they could bench press 225 pounds. The athletes remained in the weight room for broad jump, flexibility and vertical jump testing. After the measurements, the players shifted to the playing field where they ran the 40-yard dash before the shuttle and three-cone drill. Due to high winds, each athlete ran one 40-yard dash with the wind at his back and one into the wind. All three position coaches in attendance were looking at defensive lineman. Along with the Hornets' Zack Nash, local product Akiem Hicks garnered a lot of attention. Nash was an FCS All-American and all-Big Sky Conference selection the last two years. - Sacramento State football
