Draft Scout Deshawn Shead News
12/06/17 - CB DeShawn Shead returned to the practice field for the first time this season on Wednesday.
"We're really fired up for that," head coach Pete Carroll said. "It's been a long haul for him. Any time you've ever heard me talk about him I would tell you he's ridiculously on it in terms of his rehab and his effort and his preparation and all that and I'm thrilled for him to come back to the practice (field) now. He has three weeks to show where he is and all that and we'll take a good look at it with our fingers crossed and high hopes that he'll be able to help us out."
Shead tore the ACL in his left knee in January during a playoff loss to the Atlanta Falcons. He had surgery later that month and required an additional clean-up procedure before training camp began in late July. He was placed on the physically unable to perform list and has been rehabbing on the side while his teammates have surged onward.
"It was definitely a grind and I'm happy to be back," Shead said on Wednesday.
Shead has a 21-day window to practice before the Seahawks have to put him on their active roster or end his season by keeping him on physically unable to perform. It's a change from the rules of prior years that Shead can even return this late in the season.
Shead didn't believe it would take him the full three weeks of practice to be ready to play. However, it's unlikely he will be able to get in game shape with just three days of practice before the team heads to Jacksonville this Friday.
12/04/17 - CB DeShawn Shead may or may not return to practice this week. He's been on the physically unable to perform list all season after tearing an ACL in a playoff game in January. Head coach Pete Carroll keeps citing how "close" Shead is to getting back to practice and he may be able to this week, but no decision has been made yet.
11/27/17 - CB DeShawn Shead (torn ACL) won't practice this week, but will have more intense workouts this week to ramp up toward a potential return to practice soon.
11/22/17 - CB DeShawn Shead is "really close" to being able to return to practice, but is still not quite able to clear a final hurdle in his recovery to get back on the field.
Shead sustained a torn ACL against Atlanta in the playoffs last January. Head coach Pete Carroll said he'd be watching Shead's workout on Wednesday to get a better sense for his current status.
