 Draft Scout *Dre Kirkpatrick News
05/24/17 - CB Dre Kirkpatrick's right hand was in a cast during the first day of OTAs and he said he expected to miss around two weeks due to a small fracture. "Nothing too serious," Kirkpatrick said. "I've got a small fracture. Couple weeks, I'll be back out there." The Bengals made a sizeable investment in Kirkpatrick this offseason, signing him to a five-year, $52 million contract. For now, he's relegated to instructor during the voluntary workouts. "I'm contributing," he said. "I'm following the young guys around, making sure they're up to speed so coach doesn't have to worry too much about them. At the end of the day, I'd rather be out there. Hopefully, I'll be able to get out there next week."
03/10/17 - CB Dre Kirkpatrick re-signed with the Bengals, landing a five-year contract on Thursday. Kirkpatrick broke the news on his Twitter account. "Cincy I'm coming home 5 more years," he tweeted. Kirkpatrick had three interceptions last season for the third time in his career. He has returned two for touchdowns during his five-year career. He had 46 tackles while earning just over $7.5 million last season after the Bengals exercised the fifth-year option on his rookie deal.
09/28/16 - CB Dre Kirkpatrick is listed as doubtful for Thursday game (8:25 p.m., ET) against the Miami Dolphins at Paul Brown Stadium. Kirkpatrick has a hamstring injury and likely will be replaced in the starting lineup by Darqueze Dennard.
09/19/16 - CB Dre Kirkpatrick had not had an interception since 2014. But, after going pick-less through 18 games, Kirkpatrick ended his skid when he intercepted a Ben Roethlisberger pass in the first half on Sunday. He also was partly responsible for holding Steelers WR Antonio Brown to only four catches for 39 yards.
04/29/15 - CB Dre Kirkpatrick had the fifth-year option in his contract exercised by the Bengals. The one-year deal is expected to be worth $7.5 million. Kirkpatrick is competing with Darqueze Dennard for a starting job at cornerback in 2015. The former Alabama All-America said Monday that he is taking the job after figuring out in the offseason how to be a pro. "A lot of the going out had to stop. A lot of the staying up late had to stop. It's pretty much putting everything in line," Kirkpatrick said. "I feel like I did a great job. My trainer did a great job. My trainer is up here right now. We're going to be doing a little extra work in the offseason before going into OTAs, do a little extra work after practice some time. "I want to be the best. I don't want to just be a starting corner. I want to be the best. I want to be the No. 1 corner in the league and that's what I thrive." Said head coach Marvin Lewis, "For Dre, things didn't quite bounce his way early on, with injuries and gaining full confidence, but he continued to fight his tail off and we saw the good results this past year. We're very excited about his future and how he's attacked the offseason again."
