08/21/12 - If there was a time Florida State coach Jimbo Fisher was thankful to have depth on his defensive line, it is now. It appears he will soon be without the services of one of his top veteran defenders. Due to an ankle injury that has been slow to fully heal, defensive tackle Jacobbi McDaniel appears set to receive a medical redshirt this season, according to Fisher. "He'll most likely redshirt," Fisher said Monday afternoon, quieting some debate that has raged internally among FSU fans for part of the preseason. Earlier in the camp, the fourth-year senior mentioned in various online reports that he wouldn't shy away from a redshirt opportunity if one presented itself. McDaniel, a Madison County native, saw his junior year cut short when he broke an ankle on the opening drive of FSU's game against Duke last October. The Seminoles recovered a turnover on the same play. According to Fisher, it might not be until October before McDaniel would be ready to play in live game situations. "You've got to give him that full year (to get healthy)," Fisher said. "And we should have enough depth there to be able to do that." - Coley Harvey, The Orlando Sentinel
