Draft Scout Josh Boyd News
12/18/13 - DE Josh Boyd has played his way into the rotation on the defensive line down the stretch in what had previously been a mostly obscure rookie season for the fifth-round draft pick out of Mississippi State. The 6-foot-3, 310-pound Boyd was in for a season-high 32 plays on defense in the 37-36 comeback win at Dallas on Sunday, capitalizing on the opportunities that came after veteran starter Johnny Jolly sustained a game-ending shoulder injury in the first quarter. Boyd came up with three solo tackles (one for loss) and one hit on Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo.
04/28/13 - A closer look at the Packers' picks: Round 5/167 -- Josh Boyd, DT, 6-3, 310, Mississippi State...Boyd, a three-technique lineman better equipped to stop the run than collapse the pocket, will have to adjust to the nuances of a 3-4 scheme. Production by the sturdy three-year starter regressed last season, when he had only 1.5 sacks. - The Sports Xchange
03/07/13 - 2013 Mississippi State Pro Day: Representatives from 21 NFL teams gathered at Mississippi State’s pro day on March 6, where 18 players worked out. Josh Boyd, DT (6-3, 307) - Boyd ran 5.18 and 5.12 in the 40, and 4.71 in the short shuttle. Boyd looked good in the defensive line drills run by Nunn. He also moved very well in the bag drills. - Gil Brandt, NFL.com
10/29/12 - STILL NEEDS WORK: MSU will not win an SEC title until it picks up a few more beasts in the trenches. Alabama dominated the Bulldogs' offensive and defensive lines all night, further showing the ever-widening gap between Alabama and the rest of the country. Defense wins championships, sure, but so do huge linemen. "We're still growing toward that," Mullen said. "We'll see. There's a lot of football to be played this season." - The Sports Xchange
09/05/12 - STILL NEEDS WORK: The defensive line, the perceived strength of the team, did not get much pressure on Jackson State's quarterback. Whether that was by design remains to be seen, but with so much talent on the Bulldogs' defensive front, recording only three tackles for loss against an FCS team certainly opens some eyes. QUOTE TO NOTE: "We had a few things here and there, but we stopped them most of the time." -- DT Josh Boyd, on the defense's topsy-turvy performance against Jackson State - The Sports Xchange
