 Draft Scout DeVonte Holloman News
02/16/15 - LB DeVonte Holloman was placed on waivers by the Cowboys Friday (Feb. 13) with the designation failed physical.
08/27/14 - LB DeVonte Holloman (neck) cleared waivers and was placed on reserve/injured Wednesday (Aug. 27) by the Cowboys.
08/21/14 - LB DeVonte Holloman will retire from football because of a neck injury. "I'm lost for words right now, trying to take it all in," CB Brandon Carr said. "I'm sad to see that happen. Just offer him words of encouragement to keep him moving and take that same attitude he had within these walls into the next chapter of his life." Holloman was a sixth-round pick in 2013. He missed seven games as a rookie because of a spinal contusion. His loss is a big blow to the Cowboys' depth at the position. Holloman, 23, missed six games last year with a neck injury and injured his neck in Saturday's preseason game against Baltimore. Holloman had three different medical opinions, including one in San Antonio this week. "DeVonte got information back from the doctors he visited with regarding his neck and it doesn't look like he's going to be able to play football anymore," Garrett told reporters. "It's in relation to the injury he had last year and he had a similar injury this year. I'll let him speak more to that. But the information we have doesn't look he's going to be able to play football anymore." Garrett said he spoke to Holloman, who was on the field in practice Thursday, although he was not dressed in uniform like his teammates. "It's a very challenging, difficult thing for a young man who has dreams of being an NFL football player (and) achieves those dreams," Garrett said. "I told him this morning, 'You're a 10-year player in my mind. You'll be for a long, long time.' He just has everything you want. He has physical ability, he's tough and has good feel for the game. "But this becomes an easy decision for him and his family when you're dealing with that kind of an injury. We had a good visit with him this morning. He had a smile on his face. He's certainly welcome to be part of our football team." Holloman appeared in nine games (two starts) for the Cowboys in 2013, recording 26 tackles and two sacks.
08/20/14 - LB DeVonte Holloman went to San Antonio to get another look at his injured neck. Holloman missed seven games last year with a neck injury. He hurt it again in the preseason game against the Ravens last Sunday. The Cowboys fear the new injury could be season ending and possibly career threatening.
08/18/14 - LB DaVonte Holloman suffered a neck injury against the Ravens. Coach Jason Garrett said the team is continuing to evaluate his status, which is a huge concern because Holloman missed seven games last year with a neck injury.
