 Draft Scout Demontre Hurst News
09/22/15 - CB Demontre Hurst, who was waived by the Bears on Sept. 19, was signed by the Bears to their practice squad Tuesday (Sept. 22).
09/20/15 - CB Demontre Hurst was placed on waivers by the Bears Saturday (Sept. 19).
02/26/15 - CB Demontre Hurst signed a two-year contract with the Bears Wednesday (Feb. 25). An undrafted free agent out of Oklahoma in 2013, Hurst was scheduled to be an exclusive-rights free agent. After spending his rookie season on the practice squad, he played in 15 games, starting two, last season. He made 35 tackles, one interception and one forced fumble. The Bears are under a new general manager, Ryan Pace, and coach, John Fox, who brought in Vic Fangio as his defensive coordinator. "It's a blessing to be where I started and get to be with a different set of coaches but still with the same teammates," Hurst told the team's website. "I'm just happy to be back with the guys. They pretty much helped me throughout the season last year to keep growing with them. "I've heard so much about (Fox and Fangio)," Hurst added. "They're defensive-minded great coaches. It's an honor to be with those coaches, get a new defense and try to change things around here and get back to a defensive mindset."
11/20/14 - CB Demontre Hurst has been out Wednesday and Thursday with a knee injury, which deprives the Bears of a potential nickel back. Sherrick McManis could be moved into that spot, or they could put McManis at cornerback and move Tim Jennings into the nickel spot in passing situations. Jennings started out the year playing there, but moved following the season-ending pectoral muscle injury to Charles Tillman. Another option is putting backup safety Brock Vereen at nickel. He was used on third downs in the nickel defense some in last week's game.
09/18/14 - CB Demontre Hurst was brought back to the 53-man roster Thursday. Hurst had been cut after the Buffalo game when he made a few special teams snafus, but did record two tackles in that game.
