 Draft Scout Carlos Hyde News

05/12/14 - 49ers deepen roster with 12 picks in draft...After taking Ward with the 30th pick in the first round Thursday, the 49ers used their second-round pick on Ohio State tailback Carlos Hyde. Viewed by many as the premier running back in the draft, Hyde slipped to No. 57 because of the devaluation of the position. Still, San Francisco is a run-first offense built to control the tempo of the game through it's physical play up front, making Hyde a perfect fit.

Hyde joins a crowded backfield headlined by Frank Gore, who's been supplemented by Kendall Hunter and LaMichael James over the last two seasons. The 49ers also have Marcus Lattimore after sitting out his entire rookie season in 2013 when he was drafted in the third round. Lattimore is expected to be 100 percent healthy come training camp, giving Harbaugh's offense a talented three-headed ground attack. - The Sports Xchange

05/12/14 - A closer look at the 49ers' picks: Round 2/57 -- Carlos Hyde, RB, 6-0, 230, Ohio State...Frank Gore will turn 31 this month. In his last performance, he rushed for 14 yards on 11 carries in the NFC Championship Game. Gore is still the starter, but Hyde is the future of the position alongside Marcus Lattimore, who is still a question mark after sitting all of last seasons while recovering from his gruesome knee injury. - The Sports Xchange
05/08/14 - 2014 DRAFT SCOUT FINAL TOP 100: 50/1. Carlos Hyde, RB, Ohio State, 6-0, 230, 4.61, 2...North-south runner blasted for 1,527 yards last year, the first running back for an Urban Meyer-coached team to rush 1,000 yards in a season. More impressively, he did it despite missing first three games on suspension for an altercation with a woman in a Columbus nightclub last summer. "I go out every game with the mindset that I have to make up for those three games," Hyde said in October. "That suspension ... really hurt." Frankly: Reliable in terms of ball security and consistent chunks per carry, but lacks both elusiveness and good-bye speed. So he must take football seriously, starting with avoiding weight problems that plagued him early in college, or his pro career will go pffft. - Frank Cooney, NFLDraftScout.com
