 Draft Scout Abry Jones News
11/22/13 - DT Abry Jones (back) took part in practice Friday and is probable to play against Houston.
04/29/13 - Jaguars agree to terms with 23 Rookie Free Agents: The Jacksonville Jaguars have agreed to terms with 23 rookie free agents. These 23 players are expected to join the Jaguars’ eight drafted players and others for rookie mini-camp beginning Friday, May 3. DT Arby Jones, Georgia - Jaguars.com
03/28/13 - 2013 Georgia Pro Day: Representatives from all 32 NFL teams gathered at Georgia’s pro day on Thursday for a workout held outdoors on FieldTurf in approximately 40-degree temperatures. Abry Jones, DE (6-2 5/8, 312) - Jones ran the 40 in 5.19 seconds with the wind and 5.29 seconds against the wind. He had a 4.94-second short shuttle and a 7.93-second three-cone drill. He also did positional drills. - Gil Brandt, NFL.com
10/25/12 - Abry Jones’ high school coach confirmed what had been floated around on social media and hinted by his Georgia coaches and teammates. The Bulldogs’ starting defensive end is likely out for the rest of the regular season after undergoing ankle surgery on Tuesday. Kevin Kinsler, the head coach at Northside High in Warner Robins, is the only one to provide anything resembling a confirmation and then only reluctantly so. But he did confirm that Jones underwent ankle surgery on Tuesday at St. Mary’s Hospital and is looking at a long recovery as a result. “I’ve just texted back and forth with his parents a little bit and that’s it,” said Kinsler, who was Jones’ defensive coordinator when he was at Northside. “All we know is the surgery went well and they were talking six to eight weeks. But we haven’t had a chance to sit down and talk with them or anything like that. I imagine it’s been pretty hectic up there.” Obviously the recovery time will mean Jones will likely be out the rest of the season with a shot of coming back for a post-Christmas bowl game. Jones’ absence with the Bulldogs will be felt on defense. Jones, a 6-foot-3, 308-pound senior, has started 26 games and played in 45 for the Bulldogs at defensive end. Jones had to sit out the Florida Atlantic game earlier this season with an injury to the same left ankle. He had 17 tackles before having to leave the Kentucky game this past Saturday on Georgia’s second defensive play. - Chip Towers, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
08/21/12 - Abry Jones does not speak in empty platitudes. A little personal glory, he freely admits, would be a nice thing. "I kind of want to leave here with some accolades," Jones said. "I want to leave my mark at Georgia." He's running out of time. But his coaches say he has the ability to do it. Everyone around the Georgia football team, including Jones, understands why he gets overlooked: The stats. The defensive end from Warner Robins enters his senior year with just five career sacks. Four of them came last year, which is pretty good, but when you've got two other All-Americans on defense, and practically every starter -- and some backups -- are NFL prospects, you can get lost in the shuffle. "He's a guy that because of maybe other people getting the press, that he's gotten unnoticed a little bit," Georgia defensive coordinator Todd Grantham said. "But from a coaching standpoint and my standpoint, I understand his value to our team." Jones started every game last year for the Bulldogs, who finished as the nation's fifth-ranked defense. Jones was a big part of that, not only because he chipped in 47 tackles, seven of them for a loss, but because he is one of the most dependable players. "He's a leader by example, meaning by the way he plays," Grantham said. "He's not always the most flamboyant guy, but he works hard, he prepares, he's ready to play." After last season, Jones submitted his name to the NFL draft advisory board, as did many of his teammates. He said he received a third-round grade but didn't seriously consider leaving. Jones is one of the more socially popular members of the defense, because of a humorous streak. While most teammates say they're ready to be done with the preseason and play some real games, Jones said he's soaking it in. "Enjoying the senior-year moments and stuff" Jones said. "I think in other years I probably wanted to rush it. But now I want to take my time, live in the moment." - Seth Emerson, The Ledger-Enquirer
