Draft Scout Snapshot: A closer look at the Dolphins' picks: Round 4/106 - Dion Sims, TE, 6-5, 262, Michigan State...The Dolphins need a tight end to replace the blocking production of Anthony Fasano, who departed for Kansas City, and drafted one of the best blocking tight ends in the draft in Sims, who played at 285 pounds at Michigan State. Dustin Keller will be the main pass-catching tight end, and Sims, who had 475 receiving yards and two touchdowns in 2012, will likely be ahead of Michael Egnew and Charles Clay as the No. 2 tight end. - The Sports Xchange

Sims, the No. 7-rated tight end in the 2013 class according to NFLDraftScout.com ratings, caught 59 passes for 707 yards and two touchdowns in 39 career games for the Spartans. The Dolphins need a tight end to replace the blocking production of Anthony Fasano, who departed for Kansas City, and drafted one of the best blocking tight ends in the draft in Sims, who played at 285 pounds at Michigan State. Dustin Keller will be the main pass-catching tight end, and Sims, who had 475 receiving yards and two touchdowns in 2012, will likely be ahead of Michael Egnew and Charles Clay as the No. 2 tight end.

03/17/13 - 2013 Michigan State Pro Day: Representatives from 30 NFL teams gathered at the pro day held at Michigan State on Wednesday, where nine players went through a workout held indoors on FieldTurf. Dion Sims, TE (6-4 7/8, 262) - Sims ran a 4.82-second short shuttle and a 7.07-second three-cone drill. He also did 26 strength lifts of 225 pounds on the bench press. He looked good running routes and catching the ball. Sims has lost a lot of weight (around 40 pounds since the end of the 2011 season), and emerged as potentially the best blocking tight end in this draft class. - Gil Brandt, NFL.com
03/14/13 - 2013 Michigan State Pro Day: Despite measuring in at the same weight Wednesday that he did at the combine (262 pounds), the scout felt that Sims looked to be in better shape during this workout than he had before. This may have contributed to Sims' shaving nearly three-tenths of a second off of his three-cone drill (7.10) after being timed at a disappointing 7.36-seconds in Indianapolis. Sims also improved his bench press totals from 22 to 26 on Wednesday. Finally, he, too, caught the ball very well and showed off the upper body strength he'd shown on tape as a blocker during drills. - Rob Rang, NFLDraftScout.com
02/20/13 - 2013 NFL Combine, Next question: Just like any interview you may have gone through, the players invited to the combine are there to try to get a job. They have to impress their potential employers with intelligence and dedication. Each NFL team is allowed 60 formal player interviews. Each interview can last up to 15 minutes. The topics of conversation can fluctuate wildly from team to team and from player to player.

At 6-5, 285 pounds, Michigan State's Dion Sims looks more like a pass-blocker than a pass-catcher, but he has the athleticism and hands to surprise in the NFL. Besides having significant durability concerns, however, Sims also will have to answer scouts' questions regarding his guilty plea to a 2010 charge of receiving and concealing stolen property, a felony.

While the charges were ultimately expunged, they remain very much on NFL teams' radar, as is Sims' somewhat surprising decision to leave the Spartans early despite missing time in 2012 due to injury, the third time in the past four years in which he's done so. - Rob Rang, NFLDraftScout.com
