Draft Scout Eric Stephens Jr. News
01/13/13 - Count Eric Stephens in as a Red Raider who has not yet played his last ‘college’ game. Stephens, a graduating senior, has accepted an invitation to play in the NFLPA Collegiate Bowl which will be played Jan. 19 at The Home Depot Center in Carson, Calif. The game will give Stephens a final opportunity to showcase his talents in front of NFL scouts in a live game.
The running back joins quarterback Seth Doege and free safety Cody Davis as Red Raiders playing in senior bowl games. Doege and Davis accepted invitations to the East-West Shrine Game in Tampa, Fla., which also will be played on Jan. 19.
Stephens probably was not 100 percent this past season. He was coming back from a bad torn ACL and MCL knee injury sustained in the fifth game of 2011 and only had 643 all-purpose yards in his senior season after being well on pace for a 1,000-yard rushing season his junior year. - Mike Graham, The Dallas Morning News
12/28/12 - Texas Tech became bowl eligible for the 19th time in 20 years with a triple-overtime win over TCU back on Oct. 20. The one exception was last year, when the Red Raiders were only 5-7. Tech is making its 35th postseason appearance and is 12-21-1 all-time but is 7-3 in the last 10 bowls.
Scouting the Texas Tech passing game: QB Seth Doege leads the nation's second-most productive passing attack, one that is averaging nearly 362 yards a game. Senior WR Darrin Moore (81 catches) and junior Eric Stephens (75) are the most popular targets. They have 24 touchdown receptions between them. Minnesota's surrendered only 13 touchdown passes for the season. - The Sports Xchange
11/25/12 - WR Eric Stephens caught his 11th touchdown pass of the season, matching his total for 2011.
11/18/12 - RB Eric Stephens took a direct snap and scored on a one-yard run to tie the game in the first quarter. He rushed for 31 yards on seven carries.
11/04/12 - TB Eric Stephens caught his first touchdown reception of the season, an 11-yard catch that closed Tech's deficit to 24-22 with 1:35 left in the third quarter. A pass to Stephens for the two-point conversion was incomplete.
