Draft Scout Khyri Thornton News
06/20/17 - DT Khyri Thornton has been suspended for the first six games of the 2017 season for violating the NFL's substance-abuse policy. The 27-year-old Thornton will be able to rejoin the Lions following Detroit's game against the New Orleans Saints on Oct. 15. The Lions have a bye the following week, meaning his first possible game action will be against the Pittsburgh Steelers on Oct. 29. Thornton had 18 tackles and one sack in 13 games for the Lions last season. He signed a two-year, $3.3 million deal with Detroit in the offseason.
03/10/17 - DT Khyri Thornton signed with the Lions on Thursday. Terms weren't disclosed.
Thornton, 27, had 24 tackles and one forced fumbles in 19 career games (six starts) in two seasons with the Lions.
10/24/16 - DT Khyri Thornton was credited with just two tackles Sunday, but he deserves an assist on one of the Lions' biggest defensive plays for the second time this year. Thornton got a big enough initial push that he pushed Washington center Spencer Long back onto Kirk Cousins' foot, causing Cousins to lose his balance on a handoff that turned into a fumble. Earlier this year, Thornton had the rush that led to Devin Taylor's safety against the Tennessee Titans.
08/05/16 - DT Khyri Thornton has had a strong camp with the Lions after playing well in spot duty last year and is making a push for a roster spot even at a crowded position. Thornton is a disruptive player who the coaches are high on.
04/15/16 - DT Khyri Thornton, who was tendered as an exclusive-rights free agent by the Lions, was re-signed Friday (April 15).
