 Draft Scout News
01/07/13 - Arkansas State's offense was held in check Sunday night after piling up big numbers this season. It was the defense that led the Red Wolves to a breakthrough victory. Ryan Aplin threw for 213 yards and a touchdown, J.D. McKissic caught 11 passes for 113 yards and Arkansas State edged No. 25 Kent State 17-13 to win the GoDaddy.com Bowl. Arkansas State's usually prolific offense struggled against Kent State, but the consistent Aplin-to-McKissic connection and a stingy defense was enough to help the Red Wolves (10-3) to their first bowl win since joining the Football Bowl Subdivision in 1992.

Kent State (11-3) was driving late in the game when quarterback Spencer Keith tried to scramble on fourth down and was stopped a few yards short of the marker with 52 seconds left. Linebacker Qushaun Lee made the shoestring tackle for the Red Wolves and finished with a team-leading 13 stops. ''That was a good one,'' Arkansas State interim coach John Thompson said. ''Our guys stepped up with a minute to go. We really needed a play, and our guys made one. It wasn't anything except for ballplayers. It was anything special at all. We just made plays.'' - AP Sports

01/06/13 - PLAYERS TO WATCH: WR J.D. McKissic has recorded at least four receptions in every game this season, including eight in the finale. He now has 92 receptions this season, leaving him three shy of breaking the school record and less than 100 yards short of reaching 1,000. Most of McKissic's receptions come on the short passing game but the redshirt freshman does provide the ability to make defenders miss in space. - The Sports Xchange
12/14/12 - 2012 ALL-SUN BELT CONFERENCE SECOND TEAM (COACHES & MEDIA): J.D. McKissic (Arkansas State, Fr., WR), has been selected Second Team All-Sun Belt Conference (Coaches & Media selection) for the 2012 college football season. McKissic becomes the second Arkansas State player to ever be named the Sun Belt Conference Freshman of the Year, joining former running back Reggie Arnold (2006). McKissic currently has 92 receptions, the most ever by an ASU or Sun Belt freshman, and needs just two more to break the school record for a single season. He ranks No. 2 in the league in receptions per game (7.7) and No. 5 in receiving yards (909). McKissic needs 81 yards in ASU's bowl game to become the third player in school history to record 1,000 receiving yards in a season. - Arkansas State football
12/06/12 - 2012 SUN BELT FRESHMAN OF THE YEAR: J.D. McKissic (Arkansas State, Fr., WR)...Grabbing a team-high 909 receiving yards on 92 receptions, ASU’s J.D. McKissic earned SBC Freshman of the Year. The redshirt ranked second in the SBC in receptions per game, as his 92 are the most ever by a freshman in conference history. The Phenix City, Ala. native tallied three 100-yard receiving games and caught a touchdown pass in four different games. He registered a career-high 138 yards against Troy (11/17) and notched a career-high 12 receptions in two different outings. - Sun Belt football
10/23/12 - PLAYERS TO WATCH: WR J.D. McKissic has recorded at least four receptions in every game this season, including a career-high eight against Memphis, Nebraska and Western Kentucky. He now has a team-high 46 catches to place him first in the Sun Belt Conference and tied for 24th in the nation in receptions. McKissic also has a team-best 493 receiving yards, which ranks third in the SBC. - The Sports Xchange
