10/05/13 - Bryan Maley hit a 45-yard game-winning field goal with four seconds remaining to lift Wagner (2-4, 1-1) over unbeaten Sacred Heart 23-20 in a Northeast Conference game on Saturday. Maley hit two 45-yarders among three field goals on the day as the Seahawks survived a 17-point, fourth-quarter rally that saw Sacred Heart (5-1, 0-1) tie the game at 20-20 with two minutes to go.
After falling behind early, Wagner's defense stopped Sacred Heart on its next eight drives, forcing five punts and three fumbles. Dominique Williams rushed for a game-high 108 yards and a touchdown for Wagner, and Mike Mentor returned a fumble 23 yards for a score after Sacred Heart's RJ Noel was sacked. He also picked up one NEC Rookie of the Week honor back in 2009. For James, who was a running back for the Seahawks before being converted to cornerback last spring, this is his first NEC weekly honor.
Williams, the first three-time captain in Wagner football history, carried the load for the Seahawk offense against Georgetown, helping the Green & White overcome a 21-7 halftime deficit against. Down 21-7 at halftime, the Seahawks charged back in the second half as Williams scored off a lateral from Tyree Watkins in the third quarter. Deangelo James picked off a pass from Isaiah Kempf and returned it 24 yards for a touchdown to tie the game at 21.
Williams converted a fourth down and scored a 6-yard touchdown six plays later with 2:49 on the clock. It was the 21st 100-yard game of his career. Georgetown went four and out on the ensuing drive.
