04/29/13 - Raiders Add 14 Undrafted Free Agents...Conner Vernon (6-0, 192) WR - Duke: Played four years at Duke, totaling 198 receptions for 2,675 yards and 13 touchdowns. 01/24/13 - 2013 Senior Bowl, Wide Receivers, Three down...3. Conner Vernon, Duke. It was a close call between Vernon and Kansas State's Chris Harper for the third spot, which frankly shouldn't mean something negative. Both players were good, not great. In the case of Vernon, his best catch Wednesday was out of bounds, and on another play he dropped a pass from Tyler Wilson. He doesn't have much speed or quickness to him, just a set of decent hands (drops aside) on a good-sized body. Harper just seems to have a little more potential. - Dave Richard, CBSSports.com
01/10/13 - Duke's Conner Vernon, the ACC's all-time leader in pass receptions and receiving yardage, has accepted an invitation to play in the 64th annual Senior Bowl. The game is set for 4 p.m. (ET) on January 26 at Ladd-Peebles Stadium in Mobile, Ala., and will be televised live by the NFL Network.
In 48 career games at Duke, Vernon caught 283 passes for 3,749 yards and 21 touchdowns and established ACC records for career pass receptions, career receiving yardage, most consecutive games with at least one pass reception (48), most seasons with 50-plus receptions (4) and most seasons with 70-plus receptions (3). On the NCAA's career charts, he ranks 23rd for career catches and 24th for career receiving yards.
The Miami, Fla., native posted 85 receptions for 1,074 yards and eight touchdowns as a senior captain in 2012 as the Blue Devils played in a bowl game for the first time since 1994. The 85 catches set a Duke single-season record and matched the fifth-highest single-season total in ACC history.
In addition, Duke is the only team nationally with three players with 65-plus receptions on the year. Vernon will become the 21st player from Duke to play in the Senior Bowl and first Blue Devil since Chris Combs participated in the game following the 1999 season. - Duke football
01/03/13 - In addition to his senior bowl invitation, Duke WR Conner Vernon has also received an invite to the NFL Combine. The Combine, which will be held Feb. 20-26 in Indianapolis, only extends invitations to players who have a realistic chance of being drafted. Should Vernon hear his named called during April's NFL draft, he will be the first Duke wide receiver drafted since Clarkston Hines was taken by the Bills in the ninth round of the 1990 draft.
The last players to be drafted directly from Duke was OT Ben Strojny, who was chosen in seventh round by the New York Giants in 2004. Ben Patrick, a tight end for the Arizona Cardinals, played three years at Duke before transferring to Delaware for his final year. He was drafted in the seventh round of the 2007 draft. - Laura Keeley, News & Observer
12/27/12 - PLAYERS TO WATCH: WR Conner Vernon has been one of the most distinguished players at any position for the Blue Devils and in the ACC. Anything he does in the bowl game will simply add to his all-time numbers, as he's the conference's career leader in receptions with 273 and receiving yards with 3,630.
Seven of his 20 career touchdown catches have come this season and he's a downfield threat as well as willing to take some punishment across the middle. Even with the added attention, he has made 75 catches this season. Finding creases against Cincinnati won't come easy as the Bearcats rank high in pass defense efficiency. - The Sports Xchange
