Draft Scout Snapshot: A closer look at the Eagles' picks: 2/35 - Zach Ertz, TE, 6-5, 249, Stanford...Tight end wasn't a need at 35, but Ertz was the top available guy on the Eagles' board. Kelly is going to use a lot of two- and even three-tight end sets, and he loves the matchup problems Ertz causes for defenses with his size and speed. QUOTES TO NOTE: "I think we have a huge respect for one another, and I ended up playing against him and having a big day. I don't know if it played a factor in the decision (to draft him), but I think it might have." - TE Zach Ertz, the team's second-round pick, who caught 11 passes in a win over Chip Kelly and Oregon last season. - The Sports Xchange

04/28/13 - A closer look at the Eagles' picks: 2/35 - Zach Ertz, TE, 6-5, 249, Stanford...Tight end wasn't a need at 35, but Ertz was the top available guy on the Eagles' board. Kelly is going to use a lot of two- and even three-tight end sets, and he loves the matchup problems Ertz causes for defenses with his size and speed. QUOTES TO NOTE: "I think we have a huge respect for one another, and I ended up playing against him and having a big day. 04/28/13 - The Eagles are flush with tight ends. Second-round pick Zach Ertz gives them four, including veterans Brent Celek and Clay Harbor and newcomer James Casey, who was signed last month shortly after the start of the free agency signing period. The Eagles likely will carry four tight ends on their roster this season. Coach Chip Kelly doesn't use a fullback in his offense, but will often put three tight ends on the field at the same time. "It creates a lot of (matchup) problems, because (the tight ends) have the athleticism to run with defensive backs, but they're bigger than them. And they're usually more athletic than linebackers. You're trying to find people who create mismatches and we think Zach is one of those." - The Sports Xchange
04/25/13 - ROB RANG'S FINAL 2013 NFL DRAFT BIG BOARD: 40. *Zach Ertz, TE, Stanford: A "move" tight end in Stanford's pro-style offense, Ertz is a versatile, athletic pass receiver. He does not, however, offer much as a blocker. That limits his stock. - Rob Rang, NFLDraftScout.com
03/28/13 - 2013 Stanford Pro Day: Zach Ertz is intriguing prospect at watch early in draft...Representatives from 31 NFL teams (only the Washington Redskins were not present) gathered at Stanford’s pro day on Thursday, where 12 players went through a workout outdoors on FieldTurf in ideal weather conditions. The Oakland Raiders had a group of coaches in Palo Alto, while Cincinnati Bengals tight ends coach Jonathan Hayes was also in attendance.

Zach Ertz, TE (6-foot-5 1/8, 244 pounds) - Ertz ran the 40-yard dash in 4.68 and 4.62 seconds. He had a 35 1/2-inch vertical jump and a 9-foot-6 broad jump. He kept the rest of his numbers from the NFL Scouting Combine. Ertz is very smooth in his routes and catches the ball very well. This is going to be an interesting player, likely getting selected at the end of the first round or early in the second round of the 2013 NFL Draft. Had Tony Gonzalez not returned to the Atlanta Falcons and the Chicago Bears not signed Martellus Bennett, Ertz - who is the No. 23-rated prospect in my Hot 100 and No. 2 tight end in Mike Mayock‘s position rankings - could have gone in the first round to one of those two teams. - Gil Brandt, NFL.com

03/24/13 - 2013 Stanford Pro Day: Stanford's Zach Ertz led all FBS tight ends last season with 69 receptions for 898 yards and six touchdowns but the junior lost some of his momentum with a less-than-eye-popping performance at the combine.

The first team All-Pac-12 tight end may have pushed himself back into contention with Notre Dame senior Tyler Eifert to be the first player at his position selected in the 2013 draft with a strong workout Thursday on campus, clocking in between 4.57-4.69 seconds in the 40-yard dash, according to multiple sources. The general consensus on his times was mid 4.6s.

Ertz's fastest time at the combine had been 4.76 seconds in this event. He also improved upon his vertical and broad jumps Thursday, topping out at 35.5 inches and 9 feet, 6 inches after his best marks in Indianapolis were 30.5 and 9-4, respectively. He was also impressive during the positional drills, running an estimated 20 routes as directed by Cincinnati Bengals' tight ends coach Jonathan Hayes and catching every pass thrown to him. Ertz's positive day began before the drills even started. After measuring in with shorter than expected arms at the combine (31 3/4 inches), Ertz's limbs came in an eighth of an inch longer Thursday. - Rob Rang, NFLDraftScout.com
