Draft Scout Gabe Ikard News
01/18/14 - PROSPECTS WHO HELPED THEMSELVES AT THE SHRINE GAME: 9. C Gabe Ikard, Oklahoma (6-3, 298, 5.17, #64)...As expect, Ikard struggled with power at times this week, especially when lined up across from DT Justin Ellis. But he also showed his strengths: flexibility to mirror and the quickness and smarts to quickly get into correct position and win with angles. Ikard won't be a fit for every offense, but will be a good fit in a mobile, zone-blocking system and will have a chance to further help himself at the Senior Bowl. - Dane Brugler, NFLDraftScout.com
01/13/14 - 2014 SHRINE GAME: TOP-10 PROSPECTS TO WATCH: 8. C Gabe Ikard, Oklahoma (6-3, 298, 5.17, #64)...A very athletic lineman, Ikard has a quick first step and easily gets into position with the flexibility to mirror in space and take care of business at the second level. His lack of power shows up when he doesn't win with angles or leverage, but his smooth body control and overall mobility will give him a chance in the NFL. - Dane Brugler, NFLDraftScout.com
12/26/13 - CBSSPORTS.COM ALL-AMERICANS: FIRST-TEAM OFFENSE AS NFL DRAFT PROSPECTS: C - Gabe Ikard, Sr., Oklahoma: Quite possibly the most athletic offensive lineman in the upcoming NFL Draft class, Ikard is a four-year starter for the Sooners, lining up at both guard and center over the years. He burst off the snap with a quick set-up to react to defenders, using body angles and natural coordination to seal run lanes and engage his target in space. Ikard lacks ideal power for the next level, which will hurt his NFL value for some teams, but his natural athleticism to get to the second level and make blocks at the sideline and downfield will appeal to zone blocking scheme teams. - Dane Brugler, NFLDraftScout.com
12/13/13 - 2013 WALTER CAMP FIRST TEAM ALL-AMERICAN: C Gabe Ikard, Oklahoma, 6-3 298, Sr., Oklahoma City, OK...University of Oklahoma senior Gabe Ikard added to his accolades for the 2013 season on Thursday night when he was announced as a Walter Camp First-Team All-American. Oklahoma players have now been named to a First-Team All-America squad 154 times, including 34 times during the tenure of head coach Bob Stoops.
Already named the winner of the Wuerrfel Trophy and the Selmon Spirit Award, Ikard was named the Capital One Academic All-American of the Year, was a National Football Foundation Scholar Athlete and was a consensus All-Big 12 First Team pick by both the coaches and the Associated Press. Ikard has started 51 games in his career, including all 12 this season. Thanks in part to Ikard, the Oklahoma offense ranks second in the conference and 18th nationally with 235.8 rushing yards per game.
