Draft Scout Travis Long News
03/16/13 - 2013 Washington State Pro Day: Representatives from 10 NFL teams gathered at Washington State’s pro day on March 7, where nine players participated in a workout that was held indoors on FieldTurf. Outside linebacker Travis Long - who was not invited to the NFL Scouting Combine - was the best prospect on hand for the pro day. Long (6-foot-3 3/4, 243 pounds) was unable to work out, however, due to an ACL surgery hed had on Nov. 21. As a senior, Long played the “Buck” end/linebacker hybrid position in the Cougars’ 3-4 base defense. - Gil Brandt, NFL.com
11/30/12 - 2012 ALL-PAC-12 HONORABLE MENTION: LB Travis Long, Sr.,...has been selected All-Pac-12 Honorable Mention for the 2012 college football season. - Washington State football
11/03/12 - Five Prospects to Watch in Week 10: Travis Long, DE/OLB, Washington State: When the Washington State Cougars face off against Utah Saturday, it will be the Utes' spectacular defensive tackle Star Lotulelei who earns all of the pregame hype... and for good reason as he currently is earning generating top 10 picks in both Dane Brugler and my own mock drafts. Don't be surprised if it is the Cougars' pass rushing phenom Long, however, who winds up with the more impressive statistical afternoon. The 6-4, 245 pound "Buck" defender has registered a career-high 7.5 sacks thus far this season and while not explosively athletic, locates the ball quickly and plays with a terrific motor. He has experience as a 4-3 defensive end but may project better as a stand-up outside linebacker -- a role he's seen this season with the Cougars switching to a 3-4 scheme. With Mike Leach at the helm, the Washington State offense will always be the unit generating the most attention but Long is the Cougar most likely to hear his name called on draft day. To do so, he'll need to prove that he has the speed and flexibility scouts are looking for as he does not possess ideal strength to return to defensive end full-time. He's currently NFLDraftScout.com's No. 14 rated outside linebacker for the 2013 draft. This game is scheduled to begin at 3:00 pm eastern and will be televised by the Pac-12 Network. - Rob Rang, NFLDraftScout.com
10/10/12 - First-year Washington State coach Mike Leach was critical of his seniors, saying at a news conference earlier this week that some had "an empty-corpse quality." "Some of (the seniors) have been great, and some of them have been very poor," Leach said Monday. "Some of them have had kind of this zombielike, go through the motions, everything is like how it's always been, that's how it'll always be. Some of them quite honestly have an empty-corpse quality. That's not pleasant to say or pleasant to think about, but that's a fact." The Cougars are 2-4 heading into Saturday's home game against Cal. - The Sports Xchange
10/07/12 - LB Travis Long had another solid game and now has 7.5 sacks for the season and 18.5 for his career to move into seventh on the school's career sacks list.
