Draft Scout Taimi Tutogi News
04/17/13 - 2013 NFL DRAFT: 124 FBS PROGRAMS, 124 POSSIBLE UNDRAFTED ROOKIE FREE AGENTS: ARIZONA: FB Taimi Tutogi (6-1, 246, 5.07)...Although he struggled to find a place in Rich Rodriguez's spread, read-option offense, Tutogi is a strongly-built runner who has the hands to help out as a pass-catcher. - Dane Brugler, NFLDraftScout.com
12/26/12 - Three Arizona Wildcats have accepted invitations to play in the Casino Del Sol College All-Star Game in Tucson next month. Center Kyle Quinn, defensive lineman Dominique Austin and fullback/defensive end Taimi Tutogi will get a chance to interview and workout for scouts, and then play in front of UA fans one more time on Dec. 11. The game will be played Jan. 11 at 7 p.m.
It will be interesting to how scouts evaluate Tutogi, who played both ways as a senior. He certainly has the body to be a situational NFL player on offense while being able to play on special teams. Austin missed the final seven games of the regular season because of a foot injury but came back to play in the New Mexico Bowl victory. - Anthony Gimino, The Tucson Citizen
11/18/12 - FB/DE Taimi Tutogi returned in a part-time role after missing two games because of a neck injury. He is valuable as a lead blocker and a third-down pass rusher.
07/17/12 - Top-five Arizona prospects for the 2013 NFL Draft: 4. FB/HB Taimi Tutogi...The proliferation of the spread offense throughout college and pro football has virtually eliminated the traditional fullback. Tutogi, however, boasts an intriguing combination of running, blocking and receiving skills that has earned him opportunities with the Wildcats at running back, fullback, H-back, tight end and special teams that could result in late round or free agent consideration from some clubs. A veteran of 36 games (including 11 starts) over his career, Tutogi (full name is pronounced Tie-mee tuh-TOE-gee) has established himself as an effective short yardage runner, scoring a career high four touchdowns last season and has 47 carries for 122 yards for his career. He's also caught 17 passes for 161 yards and two scores. While scouts like the fact that Tutogi has demonstrated the willingness to handle multiple positions, he hasn't yet demonstrated the ability to star at any of them. He's a powerful interior runner who runs with good forward lean and keeps his legs churning on contact but he lacks the quick feet to spurt through gaps when they are there. The lack of top agility limits Tutogi as a receiver, as well. Perhaps most disconcerting is that Tutogi remains a work in progress as a lead blocker, as he lacks the power, at this point, to consistently pave the way. Tutogi's versatility and enthusiastic play, however, could be enough to earn him a chance to make an NFL roster. - Rob Rang, NFLDraftScout.com
