 Draft Scout John Simon News
12/17/14 - OLB John Simon started the Indianapolis game in place of the injured Whitney Mercilus (back). Simon (6-1, 252) was signed early in the season because of injuries and continues to improve. He's fierce against the run and has some pass rush skills.
10/08/14 - LB John Simon was signed off the Ravens practice squad by the Texans Tuesday (Oct. 7).
04/28/13 - A closer look at the Ravens' picks: Round 4/129 - John Simon, OLB, 6-1, 257, Ohio State...Gritty, hard-nosed Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year had career-high nine sacks last season. Should compete for a situational pass rusher role at rush linebacker behind former Pro Bowl outside linebacker Terrell Suggs. - The Sports Xchange
03/28/13 - Shoulder surgery prevented Ohio Stateís John Simon from participating in drills at the NFL Scouting Combine and at the schoolís pro day, so the defensive end held an individual workout on Monday. There were 12 teams present, with Pittsburgh Steelers general manager Kevin Colbert the notable attendee.

Simon (6-foot-1, 257 pounds) had a variance in 40-yard dash times, ranging from 4.62 to 4.70 seconds. He had a 34-inch vertical jump and a 10-foot-1 broad jump. He ran the short shuttle in 4.42 seconds and the three-cone drill in 7.10 seconds. Simon did not lift on the bench press since he did not want to take the chance of re-aggravating his shoulder injury. Simonís prospect rating is 70.5, which means heís a potential starter at best or a role player. - Gil Brandt, NFL.com

03/28/13 - Despite being hampered by a knee injury that limited him to just 11 games in 2012, Simon was named the Big Ten's Defensive Player of the Year with 44 tackles, 14.5 tackles for loss and a career-high nine sacks. On more than one occasion, the high-effort Simon was characterized by Buckeyes coach Urban Meyer as the "heart and soul" of the team.

Simon demonstrated enough athleticism during his drills Monday to reassure scouts from 3-4 clubs of his ability to pressure the quarterback as a stand-up rusher. He was clocked between 4.62 and 4.70 in the 40-yard dash and posted times of 4.42 seconds in the short shuttle and 7.10 in the three-cone drill. These times are in line with some of the other intriguing "second-tier" hybrid edge rushers of the 2013 draft class, like Auburn's Corey Lemonier and Southern Mississippi's Jamie Collins, among others.

Sporting similarly compact builds, as well as burst and power, Simon and the 6-0, 242-pound Harrison have a lot of similarities in the way that they wreak havoc off the edge. If healthy, Simon could prove to be an immediate impact defender likely to be available in the second to third round. - Rob Rang, NFLDraftScout.com
