Draft Scout *Akeem Spence News
09/15/15 - DT Akeem Spence was reinstated from reserve/suspended Monday (Sept. 14) and reverts back to reserve/physically unable to perform.
09/06/15 - DT Akeem Spence was placed on reserve/suspended by the Buccaneers Saturday (Sept. 5) for the first game of the season.
09/02/15 - DT Akeem Spence was placed on reserve/physically unable to perform by the Buccaneers Tuesday (Sept. 1).
08/17/15 - DT Akeem Spence has been suspended for one game for violating the NFL's policy on substance abuse. Spence already was expected to miss the first six weeks of the season as he recovers from back surgery. He is expected to remain on the physically unable to perform list once the season begins.
The suspension is the apparent result of a 2014 arrest for marijuana possession in Alabama.
Spence tweeted in apparent reference to the suspension on Monday (edited), "They try to kick in dirt when you're down. All good!!! (I will) come back stronger and better than ever!!! #97."
Spence, 23, has started 19 of 32 games for the Buccaneers since being drafted in the fourth round in 2013. He has 68 tackles, four sacks and three fumble recoveries.
08/03/15 - DT Akeem Spence had back surgery in July and could be eventually placed on reserve/physically unable to perform.
"I'm probably a couple more months away," Spence said.
Spence said he was lifting weights and it "caused something in my back to slip," requiring surgery on July 2. His timetable for recovery would make him a candidate for PUP, which would keep him from taking up a spot on the 53-man roster but wouldn't allow him to play until after the first six games of the season.
