 Draft Scout Robert Alford News
10/20/14 - CB Robert Alford recorded his first interception of the season, picking off Ravens QB Joe Flacco in the end zone and preventing the Ravens from scoring. Alford picked off Flacco in the end zone a second time in the second half. The second-year player out of Southeastern Louisiana is the first Falcon to post multiple interceptions in a game since S William Moore picked off Saints QB Drew Brees twice on Nov. 29, 2012.
09/15/14 - CB Robert Alford took the heat for his miscue that helped turn the tide in the Falcons' 24-10 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday. Trailing 10-3, Alford made a gamble with the Falcons in an all-out blitz. He undercut a slant route and didn't break up the pass. Cincinnati receiver Mohamed Sanu caught the pass and ran in for a 76-yard touchdown. "I went in on it," Alford said. "It was a slant. I was on top of it. Then he got the ball down. I didn't get all of the ball. I got my hand on it and tipped it. That's what happened on that. I just have to get all of my hand up and bat that ball down." Falcons coach Mike Smith and defensive coordinator Mike Nolan were not pleased with the play. Smith was seen discussing the play with Alford. "He was telling me to just stick it out there and hit all of the ball, like I knew after the play happen, I knew what I should have did," Alford said. Smith would have prefer that Alford had not gambled on that play in that situation. "There was no middle of the field defender there," Smith said. "That was an all-out blitz. He undercut and didn't win." The 76-yard touchdown put the Bengals up 17-3.
12/25/13 - --CB Robert Alford (ankle) was limited in practice on Wednesday.
11/04/13 - CB Robert Alford picked off Panthers QB Cam Newton in the first half. Alford's second career interception came with the Panthers driving at the end of the first half. The second-round pick out of Southeastern Louisiana caught an errant pass from Newton in the back corner of the end zone with 15 seconds remaining in the first quarter to end another Carolina scoring threat.
04/28/13 - A closer look at the Falcons' picks: 2/60 -- Robert Alford, CB, 5-9, 188, Southeastern Louisiana...Alford was the first player from an FCS school selected in this draft. After last season the College Sports Journal named him the FCS national defensive player of the year, and The NFL Draft Report and Sports Network selected him to their All-American teams. Alford signed to play wide receiver, but he switched to cornerback after sitting out 2008 because of eligibility issues. Alford started 31 of 32 games at cornerback and recorded 137 tackles, 20 passes defended and 10 interceptions. - The Sports Xchange
