 Draft Scout Matt Austin News
05/31/13 - WR Matt Austin had his contract terminated by Seattle.
03/07/13 - It’s ending, Matt Austin has realized. Four years of sweat and blood that he’s left in Logan, and now there’s only a few more days left. The 24-year-old is pushing himself as hard as ever, hoping that years of work can translate into a faster 40-yard dash and a higher vertical leap. On Thursday, NFL scouts will be watching, seeing if he has what it takes to cut it in the pros. It’s hard to believe, Austin said, that it’s boiling down to this. "I wish I could play here another year, as long as I’ve been here," Austin said, wiping the perspiration from his brow after a workout. "These past four years have been the most fun of my life. I’ve grown and matured a lot being around the guys."

Austin, the Aggies’ leading receiver last season, is among about a dozen Utah State seniors who are scheduled to work out during the school’s Pro Day. Starting at 8:30 a.m., the group will be measured and clocked in a barrage of tests and drills that scouts use to determine who has the right stuff. - Kyle Goon, The Salt Lake Tribune

03/07/13 - 2013 Utah State Pro Day: Utah State had 11 former football players work out in front of NFL scouts Thursday in USU’s annual Pro Day. In all, scouts from the Carolina Panthers, Cleveland Browns, Denver Broncos, Indianapolis Colts, Miami Dolphins, Oakland Raiders, Philadelphia Eagles, San Diego Chargers, San Francisco 49ers and Seattle Seahawks, along with the B.C. Lions of the Canadian Football League, were in attendance.

Participating in this year’s Pro Day event included defensive back Terrence Alston, wide receiver Matt Austin, tight end Kellen Bartlett, defensive back Will Davis, wide receiver Chuck Jacobs, defensive tackle Al Lapuaho, offensive tackle Oscar Molina-Sanchez, defensive back Jumanne Robertson and running back Kerwynn Williams.

Highlighting Thursday’s action was Austin who ran a 4.50 in the 40-yard dash, while Jacobs and Robertson each posted times of 4.56. Jacobs also performed well in the broad jump with a distance of 10’4”, while McClenton’s jump measured 10’3”. Davis and Jacobs had the best vertical jumps of the day at 36.0”, while Robertson jumped 35.0”. Lapuaho posted 33 reps in the 225-pound bench press. - Utah State Football

01/05/13 - Four Utah State University football players are headed to the second annual Casino Del Sol College All-Star Game, played at Kino Stadium in Tucson, Ariz., Friday Jan. 11. Austin, a 6-2, 202-pound senior wide receiver from Monrovia, Calif. (Charter Oak HS/Mt. San Antonio JC), earned second-team all-Western Athletic Conference honors in 2012 as he finished the season leading the team in receptions (48) and receiving yards (729), and tying for first with five receiving touchdowns. His 56.1 receiving yards per game average ranked ninth in the WAC. - Utah State football
01/02/13 - Utah State senior football players Matt Austin, Bojay Filimoeatu and Al Lapuaho will participate in the second annual Casino Del Sol College All-Star Game, which will be played at Kino Stadium in Tucson, Ariz., on Friday Jan. 11. The game will be broadcast on the ESPN family of networks and available to watch live on ESPN3. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. (MT).

The 2013 Casino Del Sol College All-Star Game is the second annual post-season football exhibition of draft eligible college seniors. The game provides a platform for selected, elite athletes to showcase their talents to scouts from the NFL, CFL and Arena teams. In the inaugural Casino Del Sol College All-Star Game in 2012, 67 players were signed to NFL contracts.

In all, Utah State now has five football players who will be participating in all-star games this year as senior running back Kerwynn Williams will play in the 2013 East-West Shrine Game on January 19 at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, Fla., while senior cornerback Will Davis will play in the 2013 Senior Bowl on January 26 at Ladd-Peebles Stadium in Mobile, Ala. - Doug Hoffman, The Deseret News
