Draft Scout Marvin Burdette News
09/01/13 - LB Marvin Burdette was waived by the Redskins Saturday.
03/05/13 - 2013 UAB Pro Day: Marvin Burdette doesn't know life without obstacles. The linebacker, who set UAB career (406) and single-season (157) records for tackles and led the country in tackles per game (13.08), injured his quad during UAB's Pro Day on Monday at Legion Field. Burdette had also been battling a wrist injury suffered in preparation for the Raycom Classic All-Star game. He was able to complete most of the drills, but came up lame after his first run in the 40-yard dash. Burdette tried to run in other drills, but was held back. "What's life without obstacles? I've been going through them hard for the last month," Burdette said. "It's all about determination and I'm trying to get there the best way I can. I finished strong. That's the only thing I know how to do, but I tried my best."
After a stellar career at UAB, Burdette played in the Casino Del Sol All-Star game before the Raycom Classic in Montgomery. "What Marvin brings to the table is the ability to make every single tackle, which is a pretty good trait to have as a linebacker," UAB head coach Garrick McGee said. "Marvin, his film shows that he's a very productive football player. Marvin led the country in tackles. To say that as a linebacker really means something." - Drew Champlin, Alabama Live
03/05/13 - 2013 UAB Pro Day: McGee felt that Burdette would overcome Monday's minor setback. "That's him," McGee said. "He doesn't get down about much. He's very mature, very positive-thinking kid. That's why we were fortunate to have him around our young guys this year." Burdette said playing in both all-star games helped him. "It gives you a foundation for everybody," Burdette said. "I got a chance to meet a great amount of people and a great amount of scouts. It gave me the chance to put my name out there more. I've played with the best of the guys and measured up to their standards and better. For me, it was just a wonderful experience."
Now, Burdette is hopeful for private workouts with NFL scouts, and the one opportunity to go to a camp in the NFL. He got that one opportunity by UAB and certainly made the most of it. "Right now, it'll be a lot of working out, trying to get my body prepared, just getting ready and hopefully hear my name called on draft day," Burdette said. "That's all a man needs. I've been having that one chance ever since I was in high school and I've made good to it. Every promise I've kept for every coach. I just need that one chance, that's all." - Drew Champlin, Alabama Live
12/13/12 - 2012 ALL-CONFERENCE USA SECOND TEAM (COACHES): LB-Marvin Burdette, Sr., UAB, has been selected Second Team All-Conference USA (Coaches selection) for the 2012 college football season. Named to the league's second team, Burdette led Conference USA and ranked No. 2 nationally in tackles at 13.08 per game. The 5-11, 230-pound product of Batesville, Miss. set UAB records for tackles in a career (406) and a season (157). His 24 tackles vs. Tulane are also a Blazer single-game record. Burdette finished the season with 13 tackles for loss and returned an interception 36 yards for a touchdown against Southeastern Louisiana (Oct. 6). - UAB football
