11/09/12 - Injured Virginia Tech safety Michael Cole, who was taken off the field on a stretcher during the third quarter of the Hokies' loss to Florida State, was released from a hospital late Thursday night after sustaining a cervical neck sprain. Cole was face down on the field for several minutes after making a tackle on Florida Stae running back Lonnie Pryor. The redshirt freshman was stabilized and then transported by ambulance to a local hospital for precautionary tests, Hokies athletic trainer Mike Goforth said. "He was conscious on the field, able to move all extremities, but had neck pain and numbness in the upper extremities," Goforth said. "His CT scan is negative for any fracture." Cole, who is expected to make a full recovery, has registered 43 tackles and two interceptions this season. - The Sports Xchange
10/16/12 - University of Maine defensive end Michael Cole made his last game count. Helped off the field late in Maine's 26-3 victory over 15th-ranked Delaware on Saturday after nine tackles that included five sacks, Cole is done for the season. Cole sustained a torn quadriceps tendon in his left leg and underwent season-ending surgery Wednesday. Cole confirmed on his Twitter account that he's "out for the rest of the year but back for next." A junior from North Brunswick, N.J., Cole also had a forced fumble and 41 yards in lost yardage for the sacks Saturday. "You saw him at his best," Coach Jack Cosgrove said. "He certainly was the leader for us out there." The CAA named Cole its defensive player of the week. He also received honors from The Sports Network (national co-defensive player of the week) and the College Football Performance Awards (national defensive lineman and defensive player of the week). Cole leads the Football Championship Subdivision with seven sacks.
