 Draft Scout *Mike Evans News
07/24/14 - WR Mike Evans said he spent the break before training camp working out with Bears WR Brandon Marshall.
06/10/14 - WR Mike Evans continues to be bothered by a hamstring injury, and Smith doesn't foresee him doing much more on-field work before the minicamp concludes. "Oh yeah, he's missed a lot (of offseason work), there's no other way to sugar coat it," said Smith. "We wanted Mike taking every rep, as a rookie you need to take every rep. Around the league, it happens, especially with a lot of new guys that those last couple of weeks they're doing a lot of traveling, don't work out exactly how they should, but we saw enough and we know who Mike is. "He's going to help us win a lot of games, but he's gotten better. We need him, we can't let him reinjure that hamstring, so we'll be cautious with him."
05/12/14 - All offense for Bucs in draft...Lovie Smith is a defensive-minded head coach. So it seemed strange that his first draft with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers would consist of six offensive players for the first time in club history. "What can I say? First off, you can't assume people are a certain way," Smith said. "I do believe in offense. You just can't win by just playing defense. I know I've been telling you guys that. I think now the actions are speaking a little bit louder than the words." Something else stood out about the Bucs' draft. In fact, it stood tall.

The Bucs began the draft by taking 6-foot-5 Texas A&M receiver Mike Evans. Shortly after drafting 6-foot-5 tight end Austin Seferian-Jenkins from Washington in the second round of the draft Friday, Bucs general manager Jason Licht coined the team's towering collection of pass catchers. "The Dunk-a-neers," he said. "Maybe we're starting a trend with these big guys with catch radiuses. It wasn't on our manual; we need to find a 6-foot-5 guy today," Licht said. "It just worked out that way and we're happy about it." - The Sports Xchange

05/12/14 - A closer look at the Buccaneers' picks: Round 1/7 - Mike Evans, WR, 6-5, 230, Texas A&M ... Evans, who did not play football until his senior year of high school, give the Bucs another big target opposite 6-foot-5 receiver Vincent Jackson. The Bucs believe Evans has the best hands of any player in the draft and his 4.53 speed will allow him to stretch the defense. - The Sports Xchange
05/08/14 - 2014 DRAFT SCOUT FINAL TOP 100: 9/2. *Mike Evans, WR, Texas A&M, 6-5, 231, 4.46, 1...Huge target with great hands and the physicality and attitude to take on the toughest and mouthiest of cornerbacks. Like his college battery-mate, quarterback Johnny Manziel, Evans has not convinced everybody his talent and production can be sustained at the next level. His big body, long-striding style and strong hands worked well in college, but he must learn to create more separation in the NFL, where his size won't give him as much of an advantage and his route running will need to be more precise. Frankly: If he keeps attitude within productive parameters he can be a force. Basketball was his first love and that explains excellent hands and ability to go get the ball in a crowd. Based on his rugged football style, Evans must have fouled out of a lot of basketball games, but NFL defenders and officials won't let him arm bar and push off. - Frank Cooney, NFLDraftScout.com
