12/31/12 - Nevada running back and former El Diamante High standout Stefphon Jefferson announced he is forgoing his senior season to enter the NFL Draft. Jefferson released the follow statement Sunday: “I have decided to take my career to the next level and forgo my senior year to enter the NFL draft,” Jefferson said. “I do want to thank Nevada and all the staff and coaches for everything. I could not have done it without the opportunities Nevada provided to me to be successful. I will always bleed silver and blue. I know that God has plans greater than football. But for the most part, thank you.”

Jefferson was one of the nation’s leading rushers this season, finishing No. 2 with 144.9 yards per game. He set single-season Wolf Pack records in carries (375), rushing yards (1,883), rushing touchdowns (24) and total scores (25).

Longtime Nevada coach Chris Ault retired Friday, leaving the coaching situation up in the air heading into the offseason. What effect this had on Jefferson’s decision is unclear. - The Fresno Bee

12/31/12 - Nevada running back Stefphon Jefferson has decided to forgo his senior season and enter the NFL draft this spring. Jefferson set single-season Nevada records in carries (375), yards rushing yards, rushing touchdowns (24) and total scores (25). He ranked second nationally in both rushing yards per game (144.9) and points per game (11.5). The junior from Visalia, Calif., said in a statement issued by the school late Sunday he will ''always bleed silver and blue'' but wants to try to take his career to the next level. He thanked the coaches and staff for all they have done to help make him successful. - AP Sports
12/30/12 - Kelli Master Management says Wolf Pack Junior Running Back, Stefphon Jefferson, has signed with their sports agency. If true, Jefferson looks to forego his senior season at the University of Nevada and will enter the 2013 NFL Draft. This season, Jefferson was the nation's second leading rusher averaging 144.8 yards per game, with 24 rushing touchdowns in 13 games played. - KRNV TV News, Reno
