 Draft Scout Spencer Long News
05/11/14 - The 6-foot-5, 320-pound Long started two and a half years for the Cornhuskers before an injury to his left MCL and PCL ended his senior season. Long has played all three inside spots, more at right guard than at the other positions. Washington signed left guard Shawn Lauvao as a free agent and moved Kory Lichtensteiger, who's 29, from that spot to center. Incumbent right guard Chris Chester is 31. "I've been training full-go and I'm ready to hit the ground running," said the gritty Long, who said his knee is good to go for next weekend's rookie minicamp. "I have pretty good potential to make a difference." Gruden said the Redskins simply couldn't pass up tall and talented offensive linemen like Moses and Long. "The one thing you can't coach is length," said Gruden, who noted that he's not as down on Washington's returning offensive linemen (other than Williams) as many were last year. "They'll contribute sooner rather than later." - The Sports Xchange
05/11/14 - A closer look at the Redskins' picks: Round 3/78 -- Spencer Long, G, 6-5, 320, Nebraska...More tough than quick, Long saw action at all three interior spots in college with the most time at right guard. Battled knee injuries the past two seasons. Could challenge to start at center or guard in 2015. - The Sports Xchange
03/17/14 - Other results from Nebraska's pro day...Working back from a knee injury, OL Spencer Long did the bench press (28 reps) on Thursday, but is planning to hold his own pro day April 17 when fully healthy. Other bench press numbers from other Huskers offensive linemen: Cole Pensick (29), Andrew Rodriguez (24), Brent Qvale (24) and Jeremiah Sirles (21). - Dane Brugler, NFLDraftScout.com
10/17/13 - Nebraska OL Spencer Long (knee) likely done for the year...Nebraska starting guard Spencer Long's season is done due to a knee injury that requires surgery, coach Bo Pelini said Tuesday. Long suffered the injury on the opening possession of Nebraska's 44-7 win against Purdue, getting tripped up while blocking on a run by Imani Cross. The surgery is scheduled for Thursday, and it will end his season.

Long, a former walk-on, ranks third on the team in career starts, trailing only to tackle Jeremiah Sirles and quarterback Taylor Martinez. Long earned first-team All-Big Ten honors from the media and coaches in 2012, even making the AP's All-America second team. With Long out, Nebraska is expected to try several different options to complete replace him on the senior-laden offensive line. Starting center Cole Pensick has some experience at guard, but junior Mike Moudy, Long's listed backup, played the remainder of the game against Purdue. Nebraska is off this week, hitting the road to face Minnesota next on Oct. 26. - Chip Patterson, CBSSports.com

10/15/13 - Nebraska has lost its top offensive lineman, most likely for the rest of the year. Coach Bo Pelini said Tuesday that Spencer Long will have surgery Thursday on his left knee. Long was hurt on the Huskers' fifth play from scrimmage on Saturday at Purdue. Nebraska won the game 44-7. Long was an Outland Trophy candidate after making first-team All-Big Ten and second-team All-American in 2012. Pelini says it looks like Long is gone for the year, "but the prognosis going forward's a little bit better." - AP Sports
