05/12/14 - A closer look at the Cardinals' picks: Round 6/196 - Walt Powell, WR, 5-11, 189, Murray State...He was productive in college but he's not a speedster. That will make it more difficult for him to make the roster, given the signing of Ted Ginn, JR., and the drafting of John Brown in the third round. - The Sports Xchange
10/07/13 - OCT 7 OVC SPECIALIST OF THE WEEK: Walter Powell, RS/WR, Sr., St. Louis, Mo., Murray State...Powell returned a punt 88 yards for a touchdown early in the first quarter to put Murray State on the board as the Racers would never trail in topping Tennessee Tech and improving to 2-0 in the OVC for the first time since the 1998 season. It marked his second return for a touchdown this season, as Powell returned a kickoff 98 yards for a score earlier this season against Missouri State. The Walter Payton Award candidate is one of just two players at the FCS level to return both a punt and a kickoff for a touchdown this season (the other is N.C. Central's Adrian Wilkins).
Powell also caught eight passes for 177 yards and two touchdowns (55 and 59 yards) and finished the day with 310 all-purpose yards. That marked his second 300-plus all-purpose yard output of the season, making him the only player at the Division I level (FBS or FCS) to do that in 2013. Powell currently ranks first nationally in receiving touchdowns (10), fifth in kickoff returns (34.4 yards/return), seventh in scoring (12.0 points/game), 14th in all-purpose yards (150.5 yards/game) and 21st in punt returns (10.5 yards/return). Powell also became Murray State's all-time leader in touchdowns (30) during the game. Others Nominated: Jordan Berry, Eastern Kentucky; Griffin Thomas, Jacksonville State; Jamin Godfrey, Tennessee State. - Ohio Valley football
