 Draft Scout Weston Richburg News
10/15/14 - LG Weston Richburg, who was flagged for a 15-yard personal foul infraction in Sunday's loss to the Eagles, will be receiving a fine from the league for his action. Richburg was caught spearing himself head-first at an Eagles defender who was already on the ground. The penalty turned a second-and-5 into a second-and-20 for the Giants, who never recovered from the lapse in judgment by the rookie. Richburg said he plans to appeal the penalty.
05/11/14 - There's a lot that the Giants like about their new center Weston Richburg, whom the team took with the 43rd overall pick (second round). In addition to his leadership and intelligence, there's also his toughness, which impressed head coach Tom Coughlin. "Interesting story about him: He broke his right hand in 2012 and finished the year snapping the ball with his left hand, so you know he can do that as well," Coughlin said with a smile. "He has earned his stripes. He is the leader of his offensive line and offensive team. He was voted captain. We are pleased to have Weston on board." - The Sports Xchange
05/11/14 - A closer look at the Giants' picks: Round 2/43 -- Weston Richburg, C, 6-3, 298, Colorado State...The Giants picked up the top center of the draft class in Richburg, a former team captain and a durable, intelligent type who exemplifies what a West Coast offense's center should be. Although the team signed veteran J.D. Walton in the offseason to presumably be their starter, Richburg figures to make a serious push for the starting job this summer. - The Sports Xchange
05/08/14 - 2014 DRAFT SCOUT FINAL TOP 100: 65/2. Weston Richburg, C, Colorado State, 6-3, 298, 5.08, 2-3...Richburg couldn't have done much more so far. He started all 50 games of his college career (45 at center, three at guard, two at tackle), made the line calls, and blew up defenders while blocking in an offense that asked him to pull outside on screens and sweeps. His deeds were devalued by his level of competition until he showed scouts at the Senior Bowl he could hold his own against bull rushers from bigger schools. That's when he became the No. 1 center prospect on many lists for this draft. Frankly: Richburg may not be the wide body behemoth some teams want at center, but he is a monster in terms of being game-ready mentally, physically and emotionally. He will absorb the front line assignments and keep everybody alert. - Frank Cooney, NFLDraftScout.com
05/07/14 - Five players who should be on the Jacksonville Jaguars' draft radar...OC Weston Richburg, Colorado State: Center was a position of strength for the Jaguars throughout Brad Meester's career but his retirement put a glaring hole in the middle that Jacksonville attempted to fill in free agency by reaching a deal with Alex Mack. With the Browns matching the deal, the Jaguars are left to look in-house (where Mike Brewster appears to be the best available) or find help via the draft. Richburg, a four-year starter, offers the athleticism and grit to play immediately and stood out in Mobile. - Rob Rang, NFLDraftScout.com
