05/22/14 - ECU DE Terrell Stanley out for 2014, continuing rehab after car accident...East Carolina junior defensive end Terrell Stanley will miss the entire 2014 season as a result of serious injuries suffered in an automobile accident on Feb. 12. The school confirmed that Stanley has "demonstrated continued progress" during the rehabilitation process, but needs more time before returning to the field. "Terrell has come a long way and we admire his determination to return to battle, but he's not ready to be in a position to fairly compete at the level he needs to be," McNeill said in a statement released Thursday. "His full recovery and health are our first priority, as it would be with any of our players. We're looking forward to him getting back to full strength and joining us in the spring."

Stanley was a starter in 12 games for ECU in 2013, his sophomore season, finishing second on the team with seven sacks and third in tackles for loss (10). In February, Pirates head coach Ruffin McNeill called Stanley was called "a warrior with a relentless and passionate approach to life, both on and off the field." ECU also confirmed Thursday that McNeill will assist Stanley in seeking an extension of the NCAA's five-year eligibility clock after his senior season in 2015, should the defensive end want to pursue an extra year of eligibility. - Chip Patterson, CBSSports.com

02/19/14 - East Carolina says a football player hospitalized since being involved in an automobile accident last week has been upgraded to good condition. Team spokesman Tom McClellan disclosed the status upgrade for defensive end Terrell Stanley on Monday. He had been in critical condition at Vidant Medical Center in Greenville since the accident Feb. 12 on U.S. Route 264 Alternate. Coach Ruffin McNeill says Stanley "is a warrior with a relentless and passionate approach to life." Stanley was driving and teammate Isaac Harris was the passenger when their car was involved in a single-car crash. Harris was treated and released later that day. Stanley is a rising junior who started 12 games last season and had 46 tackles. Harris also started 12 games on the offensive line. - AP Sports
02/17/14 - East Carolina DE Stanley listed as critical after crash...East Carolina defensive end Terrell Stanley was hospitalized in critical condition after a car accident on Wednesday morning, the school announced in a news release. Stanley was driving and offensive lineman Isaac Harris was his passenger when the single-car accident occurred around 6 a.m. ET. The players were taken to Vidant Medical Center in Greenville, N.C. Harris was released after a precautionary examination. According to the university, the players were on their way to campus for a strength and conditioning workout from off-campus housing when the crash took place. Police said the car traveled down an embankment. Stanley had seven sacks, which ranked second on the team last season, and 10 tackles for loss while starting 12 games for the Pirates.
