05/22/14 - ECU DE Terrell Stanley out for 2014, continuing rehab after car accident...East Carolina junior defensive end Terrell Stanley will miss the entire 2014 season as a result of serious injuries suffered in an automobile accident on Feb. 12. The school confirmed that Stanley has "demonstrated continued progress" during the rehabilitation process, but needs more time before returning to the field. "Terrell has come a long way and we admire his determination to return to battle, but he's not ready to be in a position to fairly compete at the level he needs to be," McNeill said in a statement released Thursday. "His full recovery and health are our first priority, as it would be with any of our players. We're looking forward to him getting back to full strength and joining us in the spring."
Stanley was a starter in 12 games for ECU in 2013, his sophomore season, finishing second on the team with seven sacks and third in tackles for loss (10). In February, Pirates head coach Ruffin McNeill called Stanley was called "a warrior with a relentless and passionate approach to life, both on and off the field." ECU also confirmed Thursday that McNeill will assist Stanley in seeking an extension of the NCAA's five-year eligibility clock after his senior season in 2015, should the defensive end want to pursue an extra year of eligibility. - Chip Patterson, CBSSports.com
