11/29/13 - Zurlon Tipton ran for four touchdowns on Friday to lead Central Michigan in a 42-10 victory over Eastern Michigan and become bowl eligible in the Mid-American Conference for the second-straight season. Tipton ran for 216 yards and scored back-to-back-to-back touchdowns in the first half to jump the Chippewas (6-6, 5-3) to a 21-0 lead. His third touchdown was on an 86-yard run and he finished the half with 134 yards.
Eastern Michigan (2-10, 1-7) drove down the field for 85 yards in 55 seconds to score its first touchdown, making the score 21-10, before the end of the first half. Central Michigan's Courtney Williams ran back the opening kickoff of the second half for an 84-yard touchdown, marking the Chippewas first kickoff return for a touchdown since January 6, 2010. 11/16/13 - Zurlon Tipton rushed for 114 yards and scored two touchdowns to lead Central Michigan to a 27-22 win over Western Michigan Saturday. Tipton, who had been out for most of the year after breaking his ankle in the season opener, scored from the 10 and the 1 to give the Chippewas (4-6, 3-3 Mid-American) a 14-0 lead. Western Michigan (1-10, 1-6) took the lead 16-14 with 7:37 remaining in the third on three Andrew Haldeman field goals and a 29-yard scoring run by Dareyon Chance.
Central Michigan regained the lead for good on a Mike Kinville-to-Cooper Rush touchdown pass. Tony Annesse returned an interception 34 yards for a touchdown to push the lead to 27-16. The Broncos scored on a Brian Fields' 1-yard run after Cory Sueing forced a fumble, recovered by Austin Lewis. Western Michigan mounted another late drive but it stalled on Central Michigan's 26. - AP Sports
09/04/13 - Central Michigan RB Zurlon Tipton broke his ankle in the opening loss to Michigan and is likely out for the season. Tipton led the Chippewas with 1,492 rushing yards in 2012, averaging 5.9 yards per carry, and scored 19 touchdowns. He is replaced in the lineup by RB Saylor Lavallii. - The Sports Xchange
09/04/13 - Game: Michigan 59, Central Michigan 9. No. 17 Michigan squashed any momentum from CMU's late-season surge in 2012. The Wolverines jumped out to a 21-3 lead and never looked back, compiling 463 yards of total offense compared to 210 for the Chippewas, Cody Kater started for the Chippewas, but left the game early in the first half and did not return. Takeaway: This was an old-school beating of a state school by Michigan. The Chippewas entered the season with question marks at quarterback and defense. It showed in their opener. More troubling than a 50-point loss, though, was the loss of top tailback Zurlon Tipton to a broken ankle and starting quarterback Cody Kater to a broken collarbone.
"Zurlon Tipton broke his ankle and Cody Kater broke his collarbone," CMU coach Dan Enos said. "I don't want to speculate right now. I don't know how long they will be out, but they will be out for a significant period of time." Tipton rushed for 1,492 yards and 19 touchdowns last year. Tipton's late-season running in 2012 solidified the offense, with big things expected this season due to a talented group of wide receivers despite some uncertainty at quarterback for the first time in years. - The Sports Xchange
08/29/13 - There might be no one single back more vital to his team's overall running game -- or the entire offense -- than Central Michigan RB Zurlon Tipton. Tipton had a huge junior season, rushing for at least 100 yards in each of the final seven games of 2012 and finishing the year with 1,492 yards and 19 touchdowns. The Chippewas go as far as he can carry them. - The Sports Xchange
