Draft Scout Jeff Tuel News
11/04/13 - -- QB Jeff Tuel lost his first career NFL start as he completed 18 of 39 passes for 229 yards but threw two interceptions and they led directly to 10 points, the difference in the final score.
11/03/13 - The Buffalo Bills will start rookie quarterback Jeff Tuel against the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday with Thad Lewis out due to a rib injury, according to NFL.com.
Tuel was signed as an undrafted free agent out of Washington State following April's draft. He struggled in his regular-season debut in Week 5 after EJ Manuel was injured, and will make his first career start against the Chiefs, who lead the league with 36 sacks.
09/02/13 - QBs EJ Manuel and Jeff Tuel split the practice reps with the first team Monday as the Buffalo Bills began preparing for Sunday's season opener against the New England Patriots.
Manuel is expected to start if he's medically cleared following minor knee surgery last month.
"There's nothing that seems to slow (Manuel) down," said Bills head coach Doug Marrone. "These two guys are pretty darn good."
08/26/13 - QB Jeff Tuel went undrafted in April. Four months later, the former Washington State quarterback is in line to start the Buffalo Bills' regular-season opener against the New England Patriots.
While saying Monday that he hopes rookie EJ Manuel will return in time from knee surgery to face the Patriots, Bills head coach Doug Marrone said the team is preparing for Tuel to be under center Sept. 8.
Buffalo's quarterback situation has been thrown into disarray with injuries to Manuel and Kevin Kolb, whose future is uncertain due to another concussion. That led the team to sign Matt Leinart and trade for deus Lewis on Sunday.
"A little bit of adversity (there)," Marrone said when asked about the team's quarterback situation.
08/18/13 - QB Jeff Tuel, a free-agent rookie out of Washington State, is playing a lot more than anybody anticipated. When veteran Kevin Kolb missed a week with a knee injury and death in the family, Tuel got his practice reps as well as reps in a team scrimmage and first preseason game against Indianapolis. Now with EJ Manuel sidelined for the final two preseason games, Tuel's workload will increase even more.
"Like I've said this from the beginning of the day I got here, I'm going to prepare like I'm the No. 1, whether I'm the three, two or Mo. 1 guy," said Tuel, who has performed well. "I think that's the best way to approach the game. If the time comes and the opportunity presents itself, I'm going to be prepared."
In two preseason games, Tuel is 21 of 26 for 236 yards, an 80.8 percent completion percentage, two touchdowns, no interceptions and a 130.1 passer rating.
