 Draft Scout Paul Layton News
10/21/13 - WEEK 8 AMERICAN ATHLETIC CONFERENCE SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Paul Layton, Sr., P, Temple, Burnt Hills, N.Y.,...Layton helped Temple win the field position battle that played a key part in the Owls' 33-14 win against Army. He averaged 45.3 yards on seven punts, resulting in an average starting field position of the 18-yard line for Army on the ensuing drives. Layton ranks second in the American Athletic Conference in punting average at 45.1 yards per punt. - AAC football
09/11/13 - Scouting the Temple special teams: Freshman placekicker Jim Cooper continues to have his problems. He missed an extra point and Rhule had enough, pulling in favor of transfer Paul Layton. He didn't fare too well, either. With :37 remaining in the third quarter against Houston, Layton missed a 25-yard field goal attempt wide left that could have given Temple a 16-15 lead. It's an issue Rhule needs to solve fast. - The Sports Xchange
09/04/13 - Scouting the Temple special teams: Freshman placekicker Jim Cooper had his problems in his collegiate debut against Notre Dame. He missed two field goal attempts of 32 and 43 yards, both wide right, and had an extra point blocked. Cooper, however, did score character points by going out to meet the press at the postgame presser and put it on himself. Rhule has also shown great confidence in his true freshman kicker. Transfer punter Paul Layton, however, kicked well averaging 48 yards on five punts, including two inside the 20. - The Sports Xchange
09/04/13 - PLAYERS TO WATCH: P Paul Layton playing in his first game for Temple averaged 48.0 yards on five punts (51, 50, 40, 46, 53) including 2 downed inside the 20. - The Sports Xchange
08/12/13 - OTHER TEMPLE PROSPECTS WORTH WATCHING: P Paul Layton (6-1, 215, 5.12)...Transferee from Albany, where he posted a career average of 41.0 yards per punt over three seasons. 2013 CFPA Watch List member. Graduated in 2012 and has one year of eligibility left. - Derek Stephens, NFLDraftScout.com
