Draft Scout Adam Thielen News
08/24/14 - WR Adam Thielen, who went from undrafted rookie from Division III Minnesota State Mankato to a practice squad player a year ago, made another strong pitch to make the 53-man roster. He has consistently been the fifth-best receiver on the team this offseason. Saturday, he also showed that he could be a nice Plan B at punt returner. He showed excellent shiftiness and speed while returning a punt 75 yards to the Kansas City 5.
08/10/14 - WR Adam Thielen, the native Minnesotan who went to Division III Minnesota State Mankato, is closing in on a roster spot after spending last season on the practice squad as a rookie. Thielen already is one of the top five receivers on the team. Friday night against the Raiders, he also stepped in and shined at punt returner and on punt coverage. If he can prove to be valuable as a cover man and as Marcus Sherels' backup at punt returner, Thielen definitely will make the team.
08/05/14 - WR Adam Thielen will try to increase his value beyond the No. 5 receiver role when he's given a chance to return kicks and punts in Friday's preseason opener against the Raiders. Thielen, a Division III product from Minnesota State Mankato, where the Vikings hold training camp, is a local favorite. He's also been the most impressive climber on the roster since spending last year on the practice squad. If the Vikings keep five receivers, it will be hard for it the fifth one not to be Thielen.
06/05/14 - It will be tough for WR Adam Thielen to crack the 53-man roster as the team's fifth receiver, but the second-year longshot certainly is giving coaches something to think about during OTAs.
A 6-foot-2, 195-pounder from Division III Minnesota State Mankato, Thielen spent last season on the practice squad. He has always been deceptively fast, but also is thicker, stronger and a bit quicker this summer.
Thursday, he continued his offseason knack of sneaking behind defenders and making sure-handed catches deep downfield. On one particular play Thursday, he beat a defender into the right corner of the end zone, jumped high while controlling his body, caught the ball at its highest point and got one foot down just inbounds.
09/01/13 - WR Adam Thielen was waived by the Vikings Saturday.
