11/13/12 - NOV 12 MEAC OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Delaware State's Travis Tarpley (WR/KR, 5-7, 175, r-Sr., Danville, Va.) caught a career-high six passes for 171 yards to lead the Hornets to a 35-27 win over Hampton. He recorded a career-long reception of 83 yards along with two touchdowns in the win. 11/10/12 - Nick Elko connected with Travis Tarpley for two long touchdown plays as Delaware State held off Hampton 35-27 Saturday to give coach Kermit Blount his 100th career collegiate victory. The Hornets (6-4, 5-2 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference), who have won five of their last six games, led 21-19 early in the fourth quarter. Elko completed an 83-yard scoring pass to Tarpley to extend the lead, then Dae-Hon Cheung's 6-yard score made it 35-19 with 4:01 remaining. On the ensuing kickoff, Antwon Chisholm scampered 59 yards, and Travis Champion threw his third TD pass of the day, a 30-yarder to Rashad Riddick, on the next play. After Hampton made the two-point conversion, Delaware State ran out the clock. Tarpley, whose other TD was a 48-yarder, had five receptions for 171 yards and Nagee Jackson added scoring runs of 1 and 2 yards. 10/26/12 - Nick Elko threw for 398 yards and two touchdowns to help Delaware State beat Morgan State 28-23 on Thursday night for its fourth straight victory. Elko was 33 of 43 without an interception for the Hornets (5-2, 4-1 MEAC). Travis Tarplay had 12 catches for 143 yards and two touchdowns, Justin Wilson added eight receptions for 100 yards, and Dae-Hon Cheung ran for 80 yards on 12 carries and caught four passes for 36 yards. Tyrone Hendrix returned a kickoff 100 yards for a touchdown for Morgan State (3-5, 2-3), and Travis Davidson ran for 82 yards on 21 carries. Robert Council was 13 of 19 for 68 yards and also ran three times for 42 yards and two scores. The Bears have lost three straight. Council opened the scoring in the first quarter with a 41-yard run. Elko tied it early in the second with a 4-yard pass to Tarplay, but Hendrix returned the kickoff for this score. Elko tied it again with a 13-yard touchdown pass and the Bears took a 20-14 lead on Mitchel Ward's 31- and 24-yard field goals late in the quarter. Delaware State made it 28-14 in the third on Nagee Jackson's 2-yard run, and Elko's 2-point conversion pass. 10/13/12 - Nick Elko threw a 42-yard scoring pass and Terrick Colston returned an interception 53 yards for a touchdown as Delaware State jumped on South Carolina State for a 31-17 victory Saturday in Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference action. The Hornets (3-3, 2-1) scored on the first of Elko's two touchdown passes, that 42-yarder to Dae-Hon Cheung for a 7-0 first-quarter lead. Terrick Colston intercepted South Carolina State's Derrick Wiley and returned it 53 yards for a touchdown and a 14-0 lead. Elko, 23 of 33 for 293 yards, was sacked by the Bulldogs' Cortney Ingram for a loss of 18 yards and a fumble. Justin Hughes recovered it in the end zone to make it 14-7. But Elko's 12-yard scoring pass to Justin Wilson and Nagee Jackson's 5-yard run made it 31-10. Richard Cue's 10-yard touchdown pass to Temarrick Hemingway with 1:44 left came too late. 09/01/12 - Nick Elko scored two touchdowns to lead Delaware State past Virginia Military Institute 17-10 Saturday in the season opener for both teams. Elko's 26-yard touchdown pass to Travis Tarpley with 42 seconds left in the second quarter gave Delaware State a 10-0 lead at halftime. VMI cut the lead to 10-7 late in the third quarter on a 1-yard touchdown run by David Turner. The Keydets tied the game at 10 with 2:35 seconds left behind Jeff Sexton's 22-yard FG. With 45 seconds remaining in the game, Elko ended a nine-play 55-yard drive with a 4-yard touchdown run giving the Hornets the lead for good. Turner led VMI with 101 yards rushing on 23 carries. But VMI could not overcome four turnovers - three fumbles and an interception. Delaware State defeated VMI 24-21 last season in the teams' first meeting. - AP Sports
