 Draft Scout Randy Wright News
11/24/13 - Gabe Manzanares rushed for 122 yards and a pair of touchdowns as UC Davis defeated Sacramento State 34-7 on Saturday. Manzanares had the bulk of the Aggies' (5-7, 5-2 Big Sky) 188 rushing yards and scored from the 2 and the 33 in the first quarter. Manusamoa Luuga added a 14-yard TD run as UC Davis led 21-0 by early in the second quarter.

Garrett Safron completed 22 of 33 passes for 221 yards for Sacramento State (5-7, 4-4). Safron threw incomplete as the Hornets failed to convert a fourth-and-three at the 27 on the game-opening drive, and it was all Manzanares when UC Davis took over. Manzanares caught three passes - including a 36-yarder - and rushed three times on the six-play drive to make it 7-0. The Hornets missed a field goal on their second possession and Manzanares rushed up the middle 33 yards to make it 14-0. - AP Sports

10/19/13 - Randy Wright's four touchdown passes staked UC-Davis to a 31-0 lead and sparked a 34-18 Big Sky Conference win over Northern Colorado Saturday. Wright drove the Aggies 74 yards in six plays with the opening kickoff, firing 28 yards to Taylor Sloat for the touchdown. He then engineered a 74-yard drive in 12 plays and made it 14-0 with a second scoring pass to Sloat, this one from 16-yards out.

Wright added a 20-yard strike to Corey Galindo in the first half and a 13 yard-score to T.J. King in the third. Wright finished 27-of-37 for 310 yards. UC-Davis (3-5) moves to 3-1 in the Big Sky Conference. Tromaine Dennis ran 43 yards for a Northern Colorado (1-7, 0-4) score with 2:27 left in the third quarter and Seth Lobato added a 6-yard pass to Dimitri Stimphil for a touchdown with 2:03 left in the game. - AP Sports

10/05/13 - UC Davis rode workhorse running back Gabe Manzanares to a 21-3 victory over Southern Utah on Saturday, the Aggies' second straight victory after opening the season with four losses. Manzanares rushed for 175 yards on 33 carries, including two second-quarter touchdown runs. Manzanares, who ran for 208 yards against Idaho State last week, prospered against a Thunderbirds defense that had been only been giving up 98 yards rushing per game.

Instead, it was UC Davis (2-4, 2-0 Big Sky) that enjoyed a big day against the run, holding the Thunderbirds to 45 yards. As a result, Southern Utah turned to Aaron Cantu, who went to the air 50 times, completing 29 for 281 yards — all career highs — but throwing two interceptions. Randy Wright threw 19 yards to TJ King for the Aggies' other score. SUU (4-2, 1-1) was vying for its best start as NCAA Division I program. - AP Sports

11/17/12 - Randy Wright tossed an 8-yard scoring pass to Taylor Sloat with 10:35 left in the game, allowing UC Davis to rally for a 34-27 victory over Sacramento State on Saturday. UC Davis (4-7, 3-5 Big Sky) was able to come back after a 2-yard run by Ezekiel Graham and PAT by Edgar Castaneda had given Sacramento State (6-5, 4-4) a 27-26 lead with 13:25 left in the game.

Sacramento State quarterback Saffron Garrett had a productive day, completing 37 of 66 passes for 324 yards and a pair of TDs. He also threw an interception and was sacked five times. Sloat caught seven passes for 109 yards. Graham picked up 108 yards on the ground on 12 carries. - AP Sports

10/16/12 - OCT 15 BIG SKY OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: UC Davis quarterback Randy Wright, a 6-foot-3, 202-pound junior from Santa Rosa, Calif., completed 20-of-31 passes for a career-high 309 yards with three touchdowns in UC Davis’ 52-45 road win over Idaho State. Wright engineered an offense that rolled up 640 total yards, including 331 on the ground, and 35 first downs. It was the first time UC Davis amassed at least 600 yards of total offense since 2008. Wright threw TD passes of 42, 10 and 9 yards. This is Wright’s first Big Sky Player of the Week honor. - Big Sky football
