Draft Scout Snapshot: A closer look at the Redskins' picks: Round 2/51 -- David Amerson, CB, 6-1, 205, North Carolina State...The Redskins passed on a more immediate need at free safety to go for the ball-hawking Amerson, who picked off 18 passes during his two full college seasons as a starter but also got burned by going for the big play so often. - The Sports Xchange

10/16/13 - -- CB David Amerson was limited during Wednesday's practice after suffering a concussion.
10/14/13 - -- CB David Amerson was also injured on special teams, suffering a concussion that will cause him to be evaluated every day this week until he's cleared to return.
09/30/13 - CB David Amerson led the nation with 13 interceptions as an N.C. State sophomore in 2011. He regressed last year and had yet to pick off a pass as a pro when he stepped in front of Oakland receiver Denarius Moore and sprinted 45 yards to the house Sunday. "I knew he was going to do an over route, so I was just making sure I was close to the receiver, and I was able to get a step on him and step right in front of him," Amerson said of the third touchdown scored by a Washington cornerback in four games. "It was kind of like a dream come true. To get your first interception in the league and have it be a pick-six, I couldn't ask for anything better."
09/13/13 - CB David Amerson (back) participated fully in practice Friday and is probable.
09/12/13 - CB David Amerson (back) participated fully in practice Thursday.
04/28/13 - Redskins first picks at corner and tight end...The Redskins had a glaring need for a starting free safety in 2013, but with veteran cornerbacks DeAngelo Hall, Josh Wilson and E.J. Biggers and starting tight end Fred Davis all unsigned for 2014, coach Mike Shanahan chose to look to the future, drafting North Carolina State cornerback David Amerson in the second round (51st overall) and Florida tight end Jordan Reed in the third round (85th overall).

The 6-1, 205-pound Amerson is a natural ballhawk, having set an ACC record with 13 interceptions in 2011 as a sophomore, one shy of the Division I record. However, Amerson's game slipped as a junior early in 2012 along with his picks.

"Me being the competitor (that) I am, trying to excel past (last year), I was trying too hard," explained the 21-year-old Amerson, the star of a secondary that was torched by Miami's Stephen Morris for an ACC-record 566 yards and five touchdowns last Sept. 29. "(I was) just trying to make every play, taking chances sometimes when I shouldn't have ... trying to make everything an interception, trying to jump every route. I started sitting on routes, (had) my eyes in the backfield. It was a lot of me beating myself than getting beat by receivers. That's something I had to eliminate. It was hurting my team. It was hurting myself. I had to get back to the fundamentals. It's something I have to learn from." - The Sports Xchange

04/28/13 - The Redskins still thought enough of Amerson, who runs 4.44 and had five interceptions last year, to make him one of a handful of players they flew to Washington for a pre-draft visit. He had dinner with coach Mike Shanahan and lunch with defensive coordinator Jim Haslett and defensive backs coach Raheem Morris, both former NFL head coaches. "They're both brilliant guys and great coaches and (they're) going to make me a better player," Amerson said. "I was excited when I left. To see some of the coverages they run and how they play (their) corners, I definitely think I fit into the system. I think I have to get a lot more smarter in the game, really gotta be dedicated to the film room. It's going to be more of a mind adjustment than anything." - The Sports Xchange
04/28/13 - Amerson, who started six games as an 18-year-old freshman, will likely have to get used to a lesser role as a rookie with long-time NFL starters Hall and Wilson plus former Tampa Bay starter Biggers ahead of him on the depth chart. Washington also returns Richard Crawford, who was the third corner at times last year after being drafted in the seventh round.

Amerson sounds similar to Hall, who played in the ACC (at Virginia Tech), debuted in the NFL at 20, and has made three Pro Bowls thanks to a high-risk, high-reward style that has produced 39 interceptions and also many touchdown grabs for the opposition. On the other hand, Amerson, who made 169 tackles during his three years with the Wolfpack, has the physical style that the Redskins like in their corners and is bigger than any of the veterans.

"He's a guy that we feel can play in off coverage, can play in bump coverage," Shanahan said. "He's got the speed that you look for. He's got some length, just a guy we thought would fit into our system very well. We do a lot of different things with our secondary. We think we can give him some opportunities he hasn't had. We were happy he was there." - The Sports Xchange
