Draft Scout Snapshot: A closer look at the Cardinals' picks: Round 3/69 - Tyrann Mathieu, FS, 5-9, 186, Louisiana State...The Cardinals gambled here. Mathieu has a history of troubles, mostly with marijuana. The Cardinals think Mathieu is sincere about changing his life, and they expect his former LSU teammate, Patrick Peterson, to be a mentor. Mathieu will start his NFL career as a free safety. He doesn't have ideal speed for cornerback, and playing safety will give him a chance to roam the field and make plays on the ball, his strength. He also will return punts, along with Peterson. QUOTE TO NOTE: "I couldn't think of a better team to go to. I spent so much time out there with Patrick, that became sort of like my second home. The whole time, I was telling myself, 'don't cry.' I know I'm on the right track." -- Defensive back Tyrann Mathieu. - The Sports Xchange

*Tyrann Mathieu TSX Player News Log
12/06/16 - S Tyrann Mathieu missed Sunday's game against the Redskins after aggravating his shoulder injury in practice last Wednesday. Head coach Bruce Arians said the team will have to wait and see what Mathieu's availability is this week as the team prepares for Sunday's game at the Miami Dolphins.
12/05/16 - S Tyrann Mathieu (shoulder) remained sidelined Sunday.
11/23/16 - S Tyrann Mathieu practiced on Wednesday after missing the past two games with a shoulder subluxation and said he is set to return to action this week against the Falcons.
11/21/16 - DB Tyrann Mathieu missed his second straight game because of a shoulder injury.
11/21/16 - S Tyrann Mathieu (shoulder) was close to being activated for Sunday's game against the Vikings and although there is no guarantee he will be available this Sunday when the team travels to Atlanta, general manager Steve Keim said Monday he feels pretty good about the chances of Mathieu playing against the Falcons.
11/17/16 - S Tyrann Mathieu returned to practice on Wednesday and was limited due to a shoulder injury, but it was an encouraging sign that he might be able to play Sunday at Minnesota. "My shoulder feels fine, it's stable for the moment," Mathieu said. "I'll continue to put it to work during practice and see where I'm at, at the end of the week." Still not completely healed from the second torn ACL of his pro career, Mathieu was asked about his frustration level to not being able to stay healthy. "Life's frustrating," he said. "You've got to deal with it. You can't get too high or too low."
11/17/16 - S Tyrann Mathieu (shoulder), LB Alex Okafor (knee/calf) and LB Gabe Martin (hamstring/knee) were limited in practice Thursday.
11/11/16 - S Tyrann Mathieu has been ruled out of Sunday's game against the visiting San Francisco 49ers as he recovers from a shoulder subluxation. "He got close; he's just not quite strong enough yet," coach Bruce Arians said Friday, adding when asked how long Mathieu might remain out, "Who knows? We'll wait and see until the thing is really solid."
11/10/16 - S Tyrann Mathieu on why he had pledged $1 million to the LSU football program, via the Cardinals' website: "Obviously a lot of people appreciate what I did (with the donation). There are other people who want me to necessarily hold a grudge with (LSU). But I don't have a grudge with that or anything like that. If anything, I'm the one they should be mad at because of what I did and how I disrespected my responsibility and my platform. There have been some mixed emotions, but it was always in my heart to do this." Left tackle John Wetzel will take over for the injured Jared Veldheer (torn biceps tendon) and start the rest of the season, according to head coach Bruce Arians. There's a chance the Cardinals could go to a max-protect offense by bringing in extra tight ends to help block alongside the inexperienced Wetzel, but Arians hasn't fully committed to that school of thought regarding Wetzel. "You help them as much as you can," he said, "but the more you try to help them the more they don't get help. They just have to do their job and let them know you trust them to do their job."
11/10/16 - S Tyrann Mathieu (shoulder) sat out practice and was one of two players to sit out.
