Draft Scout Snapshot: A closer look at the Cardinals' picks: Round 3/69 - Tyrann Mathieu, FS, 5-9, 186, Louisiana State...The Cardinals gambled here. Mathieu has a history of troubles, mostly with marijuana. The Cardinals think Mathieu is sincere about changing his life, and they expect his former LSU teammate, Patrick Peterson, to be a mentor. Mathieu will start his NFL career as a free safety. He doesn't have ideal speed for cornerback, and playing safety will give him a chance to roam the field and make plays on the ball, his strength. He also will return punts, along with Peterson. QUOTE TO NOTE: "I couldn't think of a better team to go to. I spent so much time out there with Patrick, that became sort of like my second home. The whole time, I was telling myself, 'don't cry.' I know I'm on the right track." -- Defensive back Tyrann Mathieu. - The Sports Xchange

09/22/16 - S Tyrann Mathieu was limited Wednesday and Thursday with tendinitis and tightness in his surgically repaired knee, although he is expected to play against the Bills. He is just not ready, it appears, to return to his former role where he plays everywhere on the field. The first two weeks, the Honey Badger has played exclusively as a deep safety.
09/21/16 - S Tyrann Mathieu is still playing mostly center field for the Cardinals instead of in the middle of the field and up close to the line of scrimmage, where he has been his most disruptive. What does coach Bruce Arians need to see out of the "Honey Badger" before putting Mathieu back in his usual role? "Quickness. Speed. And him coming to me and saying he wants to," the coach said. "That didn't happen."
09/14/16 - S Tyrann Mathieu played mostly deep in the secondary against the Patriots in Week 1. He rarely ventured elsewhere, which is typically the Honey Badger's game as he often will blitz or break things up on crossing routes underneath as well as playing against the deep ball.
He's playing a new role, he said, until he's able to ease back into his old ways following a return from major knee surgery.
"I don't necessarily like it," he said. "I'm still trying to get back in rhythm. It's a new challenge for me. I'm just trying to embrace it and accept it. I think it's more about me getting back healthy, getting comfortable. I think in the next couple weeks hopefully, I'm where I need to be and I can make that transition."
09/11/16 - S Tyrann Mathieu, who tore his right ACL last December, was back in action for the season opener. Mathieu didn't roam all over the field in typical Honey Badger fashion, though. He was used in a more conventional way as a deep safety, and he had seven tackles, one for a loss.
09/07/16 - S Tyrann Mathieu is expected to start and play the entire game on Sunday night against the visiting Patriots, according to coach Bruce Arians, despite the Honey Badger not playing a down in any of the team's four preseason games as he continued to recover from ACL surgery.
Asked what makes him feel Mathieu will be ready for a full workload, Arians said: "About two interceptions every day. He flies around, makes every check and has the energy and passion that he always has."
08/21/16 - S Tyrann Mathieu, activated off the physically unable to perform list last week, was a limited participant in practice on Sunday and remains on track to play in the season opener Sept. 11 after recovering from his second ACL surgery in three years.
08/18/16 - S Tyrann Mathieu will wear a brace on his right knee, but it's smaller and lighter than the one he wore on his left knee in 2014. "Any brace, there is some restriction to it," he said. "But this one is way lighter and this injury is not as severe as the last one."
08/16/16 - S Tyrann Mathieu was activated from the physically unable to perform list on Tuesday. Mathieu, who signed a five-year, $62.5 million deal earlier this month,i s working his way back from a torn ACL in late December. Last season, the 24-year-old recorded 89 tackles, 17 defended passes and five interceptions -- including one returned for a touchdown.
08/14/16 - S Tyrann Mathieu (knee), DT Frostee Rucker (ankle) and CB Justin Bethel (foot) will be activated off the physically unable to perform list at some point this week, coach Bruce Arians said. However, none of the three is expected to play Friday night against the Chargers.
08/14/16 - Head coach Bruce Arians said S Tyrann Mathieu (knee), DT Frostee Rucker (ankle) and CB Justin Bethel (foot) will be activated off the PUP list at some point this week, although none of the three are expected to play Friday night against the Chargers.
