Draft Scout Snapshot: A closer look at the Cardinals' picks: Round 3/69 - Tyrann Mathieu, FS, 5-9, 186, Louisiana State...The Cardinals gambled here. Mathieu has a history of troubles, mostly with marijuana. The Cardinals think Mathieu is sincere about changing his life, and they expect his former LSU teammate, Patrick Peterson, to be a mentor. Mathieu will start his NFL career as a free safety. He doesn't have ideal speed for cornerback, and playing safety will give him a chance to roam the field and make plays on the ball, his strength. He also will return punts, along with Peterson. QUOTE TO NOTE: "I couldn't think of a better team to go to. I spent so much time out there with Patrick, that became sort of like my second home. The whole time, I was telling myself, 'don't cry.' I know I'm on the right track." -- Defensive back Tyrann Mathieu. - The Sports Xchange

07/27/14 - DB Tyrann Mathieu (knee) is on PUP to start camp but he expects to be off the list before the season. Mathieu likely won't be ready for the season opener. The Cardinals are targeting week five, after a bye, for Mathieu to return.

04/01/14 - CB Tyrann Mathieu's rehabilitation from two torn knee ligaments is progressing on schedule. That doesn't mean, however, he will be ready to practice in training camp.
Mathieu seems to know that he needs to be smart in returning.
"You just have to be mindful that this is the NFL. Those guys don't ever stop coming after you. I think the key is you want to take care of your body and just have that veteran mindset.
"This has helped me become more of a veteran, see it as a career and not just as a season or a game or two. I definitely have to be mindful of being 100 percent and finishing each and every season."
12/11/13 - --S Tyrann Mathieu, who also plays nickel corner, is out for the remainder of the season after suffering two torn knee ligaments against the Rams. Cornerback Jerraud Powers, a starter, will move to nickel corner, and Antoine Cason is likely to replace Powers in those packages.
11/04/13 - --S Tyrann Mathieu appears to have taken over the starting job from Rashad Johnson. Johnson missed three games because of a severed fingertip. But Mathieu started last week and Johnson played in passing situations. Mathieu moves to nickel cornerback in sub packages.
10/28/13 - S Tyrann Mathieu intercepted his second pass of the season but he dropped another against Atlanta that he might have returned for a touchdown.
"I was extremely close, man," Mathieu said. "Now I've got to give my defensive backs $100. It's $100 for every dropped interception."
10/10/13 - S Tyrann Mathieu, a rookie, recorded his first sack last week.
09/25/13 - S Tyrann Mathieu struggled last week to cover Saints tight end Jimmy Graham, but Mathieu did have an interception that ended a scoring threat.
09/24/13 - S Tyrann Mathieu, a rookie, has made big plays in every game this year. He has forced a fumble, made key stop on fourth down and intercepted a pass.
09/16/13 - S Tyrann Mathieu has played in two NFL games and made big plays in both. He caused a fumble to save a touchdown in the opener. And Sunday, he made a tackle on fourth down to end the Lions' final possession.
"That boy is a baller," defensive end Darnell Dockett said. "You cannot tell him he's not the best at what he does. Any time he steps on the field, it's personal for him."
